If it's a major thing, then i'd wait. if it's just small and insignificant, then I would just go.
but i put a light scratch on the side of a ferrari once, so it all depends i guess.

If you hit a car and cause damage then you leave a note!!!!!!!!
Someone backed into my car in a parking lot of a mall and put fist sized dent in the hood.... No Note. But a witness saw the accident and they were charged with leaving the scene of an accident. So, instead of owning up to it and paying maybe a couple of hundred dollars on their insurance over a few years, they will have a criminal record, high insurance and a bad driving record.
IF that other guy hadn;t of left a note I'd of been pissed.. The damage cost about 1500 to fix or 500 for the insurance deductable

I really fvcked up someone's parked Toyota once. I left a note with my home phone number. He called, and I called back the next day with the insurance claim number that I had already filed. He told me I "was a very decent person" for leaving my number instead of running. All I could do was appologize for the inconvience I caused him and tell him that I was only doing what was right. Based on the payout info from my CLUE report, I think they must have totaled his car. It was a 94-ish Corolla wagon and the CLUE report showed a roughly $4500 payout. Yikes! (Yeah, I'm paying for it in increased premiums, but it's currently the only item on my record that affects my insurance, so I'm not in terrible shape because of it.)

My wife did recently though she admits she didn't know because there was a lot of snow on the ground that day.

Just like karma, my BMW starts having problems and costs $700 to fix, then a speaker in the accident car goes so I replace all 4 (was meaning to anyway), then my garage door breaks and costs me $600 to fix. Yeah. I paid for it in other things.

When I was 18 I had to pull off the road real quick once, don't remember what for, so I pull off into someone's driveway. I hit the gravel and couldn't stop in time and bumped their mailbox. It didnt look like I mangled it too bad, so I just left.

Oh, once I was backing out and caught the hinge that sticks out on the side door of my dad's work van. I just caught it under my rear passenger fender. It scratched my car up a little, and messed up a piece of trim, but nothing serious. No damage to my dad's van, but it was a company vehicle anyway, and besides it was already beat to fsck, so I never mentioned it.

Sorry, but whether there's snow on the ground or not, you KNOW when you've crunched into someone else's car! She panicked and ran, and she knows it.

One time when I was drunk off my ass, I was driving down this pretty quiet suburban street right in the middle of the day. I hit about 5 parked cars, ran over some dog, and was laughing so hard I ran straight into someone's boat. Royally f'd it up. That was so fun it still makes me laugh thinking about it. The people in the neighborhood never did figure who did all that damage.

Two weeks off for you.

if this is true, kill yourself. It'd be better than taking someone else's life along with yours.

I backed into a brand new BMW once, but since he was so rich I figured he didn't need my insurance's money so I left.

This post was a lie.

I remember in work one day this stupid b1tch and her boyfriend /. husband whatever, were reversing in some old banger and drove straight into this guys perfect condition MR2.

I looked over totally amazed out the window as there was so much space.

The couple were of an african origin and knew that i saw the car get hit.

They just drove off without a care in the world, so I wrote a note and put it on the guys windscreen explaining what happened and if he needed me as a witness for anything I would etc + left my phone number and registration of the couple's car etc.

Guy rings me up and says thanks a lot etc, i've contacted the police about it and you will need to be a witness.

Next day i get racial allegations made against me by this couple (they came to my work and started yelling etc), saying how "I only told the guy because they were black" :|

I've had car's hit by people and they've just run off without a care in the world, I know what a pain in the arse it is.

Damn that pisses me off just thinking about it now :|

If it's major, I'll leave a note. A small ding (especially on an older car)... well everyone gets those. I don't know exactly until it happens.

Yep. I left, but realized I had to have damaged his car so I went back to the scene of the crime (within 10-15 minutes - look for my thread I started today). I still haven't heard from the guy yet.

someone hit my car, in a supermarket parking lot. A witness left a note but no name. I checked the car, no damage, but was nice someone left details for me, even though I didn't contact. You never know whose watching.

On a second note a friend told me he had a truck and someone parked their old lemon so close to it that he could hardly get back into his truck. While he was distracted with that somehow he clipped the car on the bumper bar on the reverse and turn, leaving a dent. So he got out, left a note and fortunately took photos with his phone. A week later he gets a call from the guy's insurance saying there's $4000 damage. Owner of lemon said truck damaged the roof, the side panel and the bumper. Friend convinced insurance co. to come out to the same place, look at the photos he took at the time (the other guy worked there) and see how the other damage could not have happened. Insurance looked at roof - the only damage was sun damage (?) Insurance knew then it was a sham, the lemon owner wanted it written off and a cheque. Never happend. Friend paid up several hundred for new bumper on the old piece of crap and that was the end of it. This happened at Oxley A-Mart so the arsehole will know who he is. Arsehole!

A year ago I bumped the bumper in a parking lot. I looked and there was about a one to three inch area with a paint scrape on the plastic bumper, no dent, it was easy to scrape.

I wondered if it was enough damage to bother with, but left my number. I wondered if the person would call and say 'oh, no big deal'.

They called, but felt strongly it was a big deal, saying it would hurt the resale value. I figured it was their right to demand a fix.

I wasn't at all sure about options - are there expensive and less expensive fixes that are all fine, where I should ask her to get one over another? So I posted the question on the auto forum here. Among the replies, which basically were to just get the repair shop she took it to she liked to do it, was one quite rude person posting insulting accusations that by asking the question, I was trying to get out of fixing the car.

Pointing out that I had accepted the recommendation there didn't have any effect on the insult - I had been trying to get out of fixing the car, the jerky person insisted.

Anyway, the estimate was something like $800, I talked to my insurance agent about whether to pay out of pocket or use my insurance, and found out there's a nice California law that insurance charges under $1000 require the insurance company to not raise your rates, so that worked out nicely.

I was actually a bit pleased to be able to tell her her favorite shop would be fine to do the repair instead of the fair answer needing to get her to accept another solution.

I felt a little bad that someone who has done nothing wrong has the hassle of having to get estimates and take their car in for repair and while that's paid, their time is wasted.

When the bump happened, there was that little thought to decide for the owner the little paint scrape was no big deal and leave, but I quickly decided they had a right to decide.

I think it's a natural reaction - there's a quick reaction to want to deny it happened and think by leaving, it sort of didn't - but the question is whether you then think better.

I never much considered leaving - it was more when I checked I hoped the damage was nothing so I could, but the paint scrape was real, and annoyingly easy to cause.

I think they could design bumpers made of a color that would show no impact - this paint on the bumper was so delicate, running your finger a little took more off.

The golden rule. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

I'd want someone to own-up to it. So I would own-up to it myself.

Very simple.

[edit]
Nice necro bump
