Ever had problems with Wi-Fi devises not liking you to turn off broadcast SSID?

I've found that when I turn off broadcasting of the network SSID on my router that some devises behave badly, they constantly drop the connection after 20-30 mins. But if I leave it on everything's fine. I have MAC address filtering and WPA2 going.

If someone can crack your WPA2, then hiding your SSID and filtering MAC addresses isn't going to do much. Everyone knows this.

True. I just like being secure. However it is now possible to crack WPA2 without too too much trouble. And I'm not using enterprise level WPA2 but simply pass key WPA2. Adding MAC address filtering is just one more layer, they would have to know the MAC address to spoof too in this case.

My Touch Pro phone depending on the ROM installed didn't like hidden SSIDs that much. The 6.5 ROMs are much better in that respect than the 6.1s. I have the SSID hidden because I live in an apartment and a hundred other people kept spamming it with connect requests if it wasn't hidden.

Disabling the broadcast of the SSID is in no way shape or form a security feature. You do not need to know the name of an AP to associate with it.

As to the OP, the Linksys PCI wifi G card in my parents' PC, my Touch Pro. 2 and my brother's iPhone don't like it when I hide my router's SSID.

Because those devices have poor implementations, this is precisely why it's a bad idea to disable the SSID broadcast.
