Ever crack a rib?

Painful. Separated ribs twice, once while playing flashlight tag in the woods, falling vertically down a small ravine and catching my ribcage on a stump. Re-injured that pushing shopping carts in the winter when I locked my elbow into my ribs and pushed...heard/felt a thump and then the agonizing pain.

Second was sledding on a cafeteria tray off a highway off-ramp embankment (pretty steep) and nailing a smallish tree with my abdomen so hard my knees and head collided on the other side of the tree. Could not sneeze, cough, or sit up from a lying down position.

Solution = TIME.

That's what I'm wondering if it's damage between the ribs vs. actual rib itself. How long did it take for that to heal up? Either way it sounds like an x-ray is mostly useless and just make sure I force myself to take deep breaths frequently.

Yeah, you pretty much just try not to make it hurt until it heals. You can't do much with ribs unless you break one badly enough that it's sticking out of your chest.

I cracked two on one side years ago in a judo match. It fucking sucks because EVERYTHING YOU DO hurts.

I got hit by a taxi cab in Dallas a few years back and had a few bruised ribs. Nothing much you can do about it other than rest.

Yep - while playing ice hockey. As with the OP - I stood my ground while another player crashed into my side. Didn't notice it until the next day - sneezing was the worst.

A friend of mine broke a rib falling off of a bar stool when we were in Prague. From what I recall it was several weeks of pain, good story to tell when we got back from the trip though.

I had only cartilage that connects the ribs together at the front of the chest/abdomen that was a bit damaged. But it seems bruised ribs are as painful as broken ones. At least, that is what i have read.

Had a couple cracked by a body shot when I was in my teens. Miserable time.

They no longer wrap people up.

The reduced movement causes pneumonia.

Many people have died needlessly from broken ribs due fluid build up causing pneumonia from being wrapped.

Surgery is necessary they said if a rib in impinging on internal organs.

I fought off pneumonia last week and now debi is fighting the fluid build up.

Today we are going to start our journey back up to Chicago from South Florida.

LOL- this was back in 1992, so things may have changed since I last did it 😀

Feel like I got a 45 pound dumbell parked on my left lung this morning. Breathing is a lot more labored and painful. Bleh.

Worst part is trying to lug around a 24 pound 9 month old who is constantly trying to bounce and kick. Oy.

I'm just thankful I'm in decent shape with a fairly strong core. I also had some hydrocodone that I never used from a vasectomy earlier this year and that's been taking the edge off and helping me sleep. All things considered I'm probably in a lot better shape than I could be. It hurts but I'm not a total gimp.

just pray you don't sneeze

Cracked two ribs in the summer of 2006, made me hate allergies in a whole new way. Really makes you appreciate how well (or not) the roads are taken care of in your location too.

A friend of mine has dislocated ribs all the time, she's practically immune to the discomfort at this point which I think is pretty impressive.
