I've been chewed out a few times for some stupid mistakes but never enough to get fired over. Going on 6 years at this place now.

Old thread.

I've made five-figure $$$ mistakes and avoided the scythe. In some environments it can't be helped; everybody screws up sometime.

Never been fired.

But I did a rip a 440v power socket off the wall with a forklift. Not sure how I didn't get fired for that one.

The only major mistake I've committed made the company $100K, needless to say I was not reprimanded.

Never been fired, but way back when I was working at a grocery store I left about 7 thousand dollars worth of frozen food out of the freezer over night. All of it had to be thrown out.

Oh HELL YES!

I've only been fired one time because I fucked up...but I've been fired a couple of times for insubordination...and once for beating the shit out of a superintendent. (long story)

Blamed it on the mentally challenged bagger? Smart play.

I thought the only way to be fired was for a mistake or doing something stupid?

a lot of mistakes are overlooked as long as it can be compensated for. just make sure you don't make same mistake over and over again.

or downsizing... stuff like that.
sure, you can call it being "let go", but at the end of the day you're fired.

The difference between getting laid off and fired is they offer you a package to leave the company. Depending on how long you've worked for the company, you get a few months pay after you sign a contract preventing you from suing for wrongful termination.

If you get fired outright, you get nothing in return.

Never been fired. Worst mistake I've done is mis-reading a database I was unfamiliar with during my first month or two at my current job. Fresh out of college, not much oversight aside from someone who was one additional year out of college. Did a study on it, so no money tied, no one really cared when I found out 10 months later and fessed up.

Never been fired.
Written up once.
14 years and counting...

I make plenty of mistakes, and acknowledge them all.
I CYA when needed.
