Never been fired, but way back when I was working at a grocery store I left about 7 thousand dollars worth of frozen food out of the freezer over night. All of it had to be thrown out.
or downsizing... stuff like that.I thought the only way to be fired was for a mistake or doing something stupid?

sure, you can call it being "let go", but at the end of the day you're fired.
i guess, but either way you still got shit canned.a lot of mistakes are overlooked as long as it can be compensated for. just make sure you don't make same mistake over and over again.
The difference between getting laid off and fired is they offer you a package to leave the company. Depending on how long you've worked for the company, you get a few months pay after you sign a contract preventing you from suing for wrongful termination.
If you get fired outright, you get nothing in return.
