LOL! Drink makers face a two year sentence if they say their bottled water helps prevent dehydration.

Brussels bureaucrats were ridiculed yesterday after banning drink manufacturers from claiming that water can prevent dehydration.
Brussels bureaucrats were ridiculed yesterday after banning drink manufacturers from claiming that water can prevent dehydration.

EU officials concluded that, following a three-year investigation, there was no evidence to prove the previously undisputed fact.

Producers of bottled water are now forbidden by law from making the claim and will face a two-year jail sentence if they defy the edict, which comes into force in the UK next month.

Last night, critics claimed the EU was at odds with both science and common sense. Conservative MEP Roger Helmer said: “This is stupidity writ large.

Really? What other method would you recomend to combat dehydration?
A meeting of 21 scientists in Parma, Italy, concluded that reduced water content in the body was a symptom of dehydration and not something that drinking water could subsequently control.

But I'm thirsty right now. What am I supposed to do? I thought water was the answer. WTF AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?

I hate the EU, and I don't even live there. I'd like nothing better than to see the whole thing collapse, and the member countries regain their sovereignty, and their balls.

So in Europe, water doesn't prevent dehydration, while in America, pizza is a vegetable.

Awesome. Politicians are so smart.

Thankfully Switzerland has had the sense to stay out of it (now if only they'd ditch other stupid organizations like the European Court of Human Rights).

The fact that no link was provided makes me a tad bit skeptical of this article.

whoops, fixed.

Glad to see this wasn't from something like The Sun. The EU is an obnoxious organization, but the tabloid press in the UK also has a tendency to wildly exaggerate their misdeeds.

deny the holocaust in UK, go to jail
deny water causes dehydration, go to jail
deny the existence of God, get a Nobel Prize

UK = LOL

actually water on its own cannot prevent dehydration, you guys should go back to elementary school, you clearly missed some very basic biology...
