Anyone here mining ETH with Navi 10 cards? Curious on 5600XTs in particular.

They're probably the best video card at the moment in terms of price, availability, power consumption and performance. 5700s can do about 51 Mhash/s for about 120-135 watts at the wall when optimized for lowest power usage (and without resorting to BIOS flashing).

Yeah, my 5700XT does that around 115W. Was curious though as to the 5600XT results, I hear they can do even better.

A reddit post is saying 40MH/s using 90W at the wall.

If your power is 12 cents or less, its almost always better to have higher hashes than lower power use.

I'm also liking the idea of a single high hashrate card like the VII. With that I'd also use the Asrock J5005-ITX board since it'll cut the system power use from 50W to 10W.

It's not just about power though. ROI is very important. In terms of ROI, the modern cards don't differ that much in terms of hashrate per dollar.

Agreed, though I heard the 5600XT can do 50 MH/s as well. With faster ROI, and slightly better efficiency if this is true, this would make the 5600XT the best mining card so far IMO....

Ok, so I am not sure where I saw someone claim 50 MH/s at < 100W, but 42MH/s seems more normal. In this case, the best card may be the 5700, with same hashrate as the 5700XT but cheaper.

Also, for currrent price references, listed are the cheapest 5600XT and 5700 from newegg.

The 5700 is about $100 more, but gets around 10MH/s better. Power draw is probably very similar.

The 5700/XT can do 35-40% better. The interface is 33% wider with same GDDR6 technology. In general they use 14GT/s memory for the 5700, but some 5600 only use 12GT so it'll fare a bit worse.

Nothing beats $/hash rate of the RX 470/570s for me. You can get the 8GB versions for $140 on Craigslist.

The only issue of the 3 cards I'm running are 4GB, so in about a month it won't be able to mine eth due to the DAG size. I could swap the two for single RX 5700.

The 290s I used to run were lucky to hit 30 MH/s consistently on older DAG epochs, and their power consumption was pretty bad. I used to run 4 of them on one rig with a 1300W PSU. I could easily run four Radeon VIIs on that old machine, assuming I had it (and three more Radeon VIIs).

I can tell you once they get here. I ordered two (refurb, triple-fan Gigabyte OC models) from Newegg the other night. Review mentioned that they shipped with the old (12Ghz memory) BIOS, and that you have to visit Gigabyte's site, and there's three different BIOS upgrades, depending on WHICH initial BIOS that you have on the card. Funfunfun. But the new BIOS should give you 14Ghz memory.

I'm expecting, based on published results elsewhere, something around 40MH/sec, for each card, once I flash the updated BIOS. They each only have a single 8-pin power connector, just like most of my GTX 1660 ti cards do, but those only do 25MH/sec out of the box, and 26.x MH/sec after boosting the RAM clock +190 in AB, as well as lowering the power limit to 80%.

Yeah that sound about right from what I am seeing. About 40MH/s for a 5600XT, and about 50MH/s from 5700 or 5700XT.

XFX China sells ALL of their RX-series cards to miners. See 3:30 in the video.

As far as my RX 5600XT cards go, fine-tune voltage, type in 1350 in the right-most top box, and 850 (mV) in the bottom box. 37MH/sec @ 85W.

This was a pretty neat ETH mining build. 7x GTX 1660 ti.

I personally have a miner with 5x GTX 1660 ti, in a Rosewill dual-PSU server case.

Why would anyone want to mine to that pool versus the existing ones?

Well, its 0.9% fee versus 1% for others, and minimum payout is only 0.01 eth.

I could see some trying it out. But for consistency its generally better to be in a pool with a larger use base.

Side note: Nvidia's Ampere series is clearly a winner in eth mining compared to RDNA2. The 256-bit bus will really hamper the thing. About the same level as RX 5700.

Interesting. Bad for miners, good for gamers. Gotta wonder if that was intentional?

eth asic miners are available for sale, 500 hashrate for $3000 at 75% of the power of an equivalent 3080/90 number of cards delivering the same hashrate. why would you bother? isnt eth going POS soon?

the only people who should be gpu mining are those who only have electical heating during winter.

This might be true, which could be unfortunate in a way. I suspect they will be a bit faster due to higher memory clocks and new arch, but not by a whole lot. Of course depends on software optimization as well. We shall see.

I don't know that to be true, yet.

RedPandaMining (YT) estimated that the RX 6800/6800XT/6900XT would hit 75/80/85-90 MH/sec on ETH.

Nicehash.com has already published a page on RTX 3080 ETH hashrates, AIB models hit 59MH/sec, FE hits 50MH/sec. Not that much better, and arguably, worse performance/watt for hashing ETH than an RX 5700/5700XT, which can hit 51MH/sec (my 5700 can).

Navi10 is a very good architecture for mining, and I expect that "Big Navi" (with InfinityCache) will as well.

I actually heard early on that a 3080 could do around 90MH/s, but that was likely not tweaked and may not be optimal power usage. Obviously at stock settings, ampere draws a lot of power.

The architecture of the GPU doesn't matter for eth. Only memory bandwidth does.

The theoretical maximum throughput is memory bandwidth divided by 8192. This is why Polaris is on the 28-32MH/s range. The actual throughput falls slightly short of the max.

You can see from the videos that the 3080 can already reach 85-95MH/s. Some even do 100MH/s, but will need overclocks. It's the 3070 that'll be on the level of RX 5700.

Very good. The IC prevents repeated access to main memory for reusable data & code. I don't see how this can ever be used for computation that uses unique data sequentially, causing the cache to want to update faster than the memory bus can accomodate.

Fantastic news for gamers however.

I'm reading all this and am wondering if it's worth my while to mine with my 5700XT (Sapphire Pulse) that I will receive today? My desktop is strictly for gaming. I live in Canada, prairies, very cold in the winter. Heating is obviously natural gas (very cheap). Power cost here is $0.10/kwH. I just read this article today in PC Gamer that seems to imply that mining isn't worth it anymore:

https://www.pcgamer.com/crypto-currency-price-rise-gpu-drought/

Is it worth my while to figure out how to do this? Any thoughts appreciated.

@aleader , Well, I would, personally. @ $0.10 (CAD?) per KWh, that seems like a reasonable electrical cost, and with a RX 5700XT, you could probably be making like $1-2 USD / day (worth of BTC, worth more in CAD), minus maybe $0.50-0.60 / day electrical cost. It would make you money, however slight. At least, in the near future, mining revenue can and is unpredictable.
I can tell you from watching ebay prices on BIN on RX 5700XT cards (Decent ones), that that PCGamer article is flat-out WRONG. There ARE crypto-miners snapping up cards. It may not be as "obvious" as in 2017-2018, but it IS happening.

Edit: I wasn't calculating that you would heat your house/apt. with single RX 5700XT, you won't. Also, if you're mining ETH, either directly with a miner program, and a pool, or using Nicehash, use AMD Wattman (Tuning), and set the Freq. to 1350Mhz, and the Voltage to 860mV. Also, consider sliding the Power Limit down to -20%, and bumping up the VRAM clock to 1800 or higher (IF you card allows, some cards will vastly lower their MH/sec if you go too high, like from 49MH/sec to 0.12 MH/sec.)
