Ethereum GPU mining?

Using 16.12.2 AMD drivers, latest drivers or even the 15.12 drivers, my Fury X only gets about 19 Mh/s when it should be around 28Mh/s. Any ideas what the issue might be here for the low hashrate?

You can try using the latest drivers and making sure the GPU mode option is set to compute.
 
You're fine. To be clear, it only lasted a couple of hours and things are back to normal now. It wasn't MEW that got hacked (though even if they had been, you wouldn't have an issue unless you used it during that 2 hour window) and there's nothing MEW could have done to prevent this. That's good to know. I thought maybe they hacked their servers or something. Though I guess if they care about security they don't store our keys anyway. I only used it once to do a transfer since I gave up trying to sync the blockchain. It was killing my entire network as it was hitting my storage infrastructure too hard. I may actually try to sync it on my actual mining machine, just need to get a couple hard drives to setup a raid array.
 
blockchain drivers give me 31mh/s with stock fury x with claymore 11.5

Can you game with these drivers and overclock? The reason that I am using 16.12.2 drivers is because that was the last driver that allowed Fury X overclocking. Every subsequent driver update locked the Fury X to stock clocks.

No, but I was getting 29MH with 17.x.x drivers before my fury became a permanent miner.
 
I am surprised more have not mentioned equihash. Usually more profitable than eth on Fury and 290 series these days, as well as nvidia cards. Note with AMD best results are in linux usually.

yeah but man my 390s (basically tweaked 290s) sucked power like there is no tomorrow. with my electric prices they at best broke even, at worst, lost money. i did bios mode them for lower power too.

ive retired them from mining, except for special occasions. i do have one in my daily driver/game rig though.

retired a 380 from mining around the same time, now it lives in my HTPC that occasionally games, but its more a DVR/media player than anything else.

A question about sharding:
How secure is it compared to what we have now? How can one "sharding chain" know that the transactions on another "sharding chain" are legit (if they need to communicate)?
I hope the security of the system isn't being compromised to increase throughput.
 
Does anyone have problem mining Ethereum on Win 10 1803 build and Adrenalin Drivers 18.4.1? Did a fresh new build and having problems with Open CL call hanging.
 
Yes, the 18.4.1 drivers would cause crashes constantly, I rolled back to the one right before it (18.2.1 I think) and no problems.

Edit: Should note that I'm on build 1709 so not a complete answer to your question, but I did have trouble with the 18.4.1 driver.
 
My 480 is stuck at 15 or 16 mhs. Removed all drivers with DDU and clean installed 18.4.3 which had been working fine previously. No clue what's going on.

If you're using latest drivers you need to switch to compute mode in the drivers. Compute mode is optimized for mining, but it may have issues in certain games. Also, latest drivers 18.4.1 are no good for Ethereum, use 18.3.4 or earlier.
 
sorry, transposed my digits. went to 18.3.4 after windows screwed up and autoinstalled 17.1.1 for some reason


edit: the compute mode switch doesn't seem to be there

edit3: i even have it set to disallow windows from updating device drivers and it still screws around!

Yeah, I think 17.1.1 is Crimson, pretty sure you need Adrenalin drivers to have compute switch which restores mining performance for RX480.
 
after getting the drivers sorted (before posting i'd done 2 uninstalls with DDU already), performance was restored. dunno why windows kept rolling back to "18.3.4 partial" and 17.1.1. something (i assume windows downloading the april update, even though it's set to ask before downloading) was eating my drive so i ran out of space while mucking about with drivers. installing the april update off a disc freed up ~30 GB.

My 6x 1060 rig does ~20Mh each card = 120Mh total
Overclock the memory as high as it can go while remaining fully stable. Then underclock the core as much as you can without hurting the hashrate. Then turn down the power limit as much as you can without hurting the hashrate (should be around 55-60%). Rinse and repeat for each card. Depending on the card, each 1060 should hash between 22 and 24 while pulling under 90W from the wall. A 6x 1060 rig should hash at 130-140 MH/s depending on how lucky you got with VRAM overclocks and pull around 550W total system power and all you have to do is tweak the cards with Afterburner.

Edit: Sorry, I see that the question was originally about 3GB 1060 cards. I'm not sure if 3GB is even enough to mine Ethereum anymore, but if it is it won't be for much longer. Probably not long enough to even sniff reaching ROI for anyone thinking of buying cards specifically to mine Ethereum. 1060 3GB cards are a bit slower than 6GB cards, so 20 MH/s is probably about right if they do still work. The numbers I stated above were for a rig of 1060 6GB cards.

Interesting. It looks like 1060s use little under 80-90W less for the same hash rate as the RX cards. Using a Gold power supply I'm getting 114MH/s using 515W. Certainly a lot closer than versus the 1070s.
 
Wait, are small timers still bringing new hardware online?? I dont even render on my 1070s anymore due to the heat, much less mining 24/7...

You get a good deal more hashrate per dollar spent on buying RX cards, but yes, if energy efficiency is the most important aspect for you then 6GB 1060's are ahead of both RX cards and 1070's in hashrate per watt.
