Estimated cost of shutdown: 24 billion dollars

Well considering that they were barricading turtle parks and whatnot I can't say I am surprised.

Yes, although Clinton got the free trade ball rolling, which could be blamed for the current world economic meltdown.

No. Not in any coherent sense anyway. It certainly is a problematic policy for the US, but that's outside of what happened in 2008.

If the furloughed workers knew they were being paid they should have had their asses at work. Instead they had a nice 3 week vacation.

At any rate... with the government operating at about 85%.... I figured the taxpayers saved at least that much.

Yeah they should have been at work not getting paid.... Instead they got a "nice" 3 week unpaid surprise vacation. Suprise you might not have enough money for rent or your mortgage!

We'll have to see what the final costs are on tens of thousands of contract change orders. Telling contractors to stop work then start again can be pricy.

Fed workers may get back pay, but contractors like me are suffering without pay. I lost 3 weeks of pay and possibly more. My employer has let go several overhead employees. All happening in the private sector. The domino does not stop at the Fed employees. It goes much further.

In the meantime, I may not qualify for the mortgage for my first house thanks to drastic cut of my salary. My FICO is 825 and extremely fiscally conservative.

Like IronWing said, it will be very costly to ramp up work again. VERY costly, which is impossible to measure and likely will not be reported.

As if Democrats care about spending $24b except that they didn't get to loot it for their pet causes. Just put it on our tab along with the next trillion or so in national debt that Obama demanded with no negotiation. Because not spending money is terrorism.

Again what does this have to do with the left?

This is about you Republicans. Take responsibility for what you've done. You cost this nation $24 billion for nothing. Absolutely nothing. You literally got nothing b/c of this stunt.

Taking responsibility is a sign of maturity and Republicans haven't shown a lot of that lately.

Well they certainly are good at wasting ridiculous amounts of money. Both sides are to blame, simple as that. None are worth more than a buck fifty and should be ashamed to say they're serving the country.

Way to go blame the workers. In case you didn't know it sites with govt workers were not allowing furloughed employees in.

I guess you were being facetious, but in case you really don't know how furloughs work, these people didn't choose to stay home because they weren't being paid, they actually weren't allowed to come to work.

He did alright, and he was lucky.

He actually got lucky a few times, too...

You think we wanted to be at home? We just released a new software package release 2 days before the shutdown and have not been able to support it at all. I'd say at least 70-80% of us would rather have been at work.
