He, and the other guy, are both telling you that drawing any conclusions about game ideas used in Horizons is pointless.

You too are missing my point. Let me make this clear once and for all.

Malladine said:

"However, lvling faster gives the more casual gamer a feeling of accomplishment after a couple hrs and helps mask the grind."

I said:

"I got no satisfaction from leveling quickly [using Horizons as a case in point] because my abilities/character didn't grow much"

I could apply that to *all games*. If you level like crazy but your skills don't change (and in Horizons they change very slowly....mostly you just get more powerful spells/abilities), then there is not much enjoyment in that. I could have said the same thing about DAoC, which, like Horizons, just gave you what you had already but just more powerful.

You say that 'drawing any conclusions about game ideas used in Horizons is pointless.' That's the kind of broad statement which is just as improbable to support as it is to refute.

You're second statement: "I could, for instance, tell you how in Shadowbane you could attack other people so any game where you attack people isn't going to do well because Shadowbane didn't." That's not a proper comparison with what I said about Horizons. I didn't talk about Horizons as a whole. I addressed a specific point someone else made.....that leveling makes the grind easier. I said it didn't if it brought no reward to the leveler. I used Horizons as a case in point.

You still don't understand this concept. The reason fast leveling left you feeling unfulfilled in Horizons wasn't because fast leveling isn't good.....it's because that was an awful game. Some awful games share features with awesome games....so drawing the conclusion you did from one awful game is shortsighted.

Exactly BINGO!!! we have a winner. thank you hero that is Exactly what I was tryign to say.

What are you.......a MMORPG psychoanalyst? Last nite I dreamed I pitched a couple of dorfs in Lake Rathe after playing spades with Bandl McMarrin. Does that mean I'm a bad person? Excuse me for laughing.

(BTW, I never said fast leveling wasn't good....I said fast leveling without character growth isn't good).

Technically....yes.

neither, they're both going to be the essentially the same milk-you-for-your-monthly-lunch-money levelling mill, no more no less.

just cuz you use different flavor of frosting on a pile of horseshit doesn't mean its a better cake.

Actually, Blizzard worked extremely hard to make sure WoW wasn't a simple leveling treadmill. That is why the game is more of a questing treadmill instead. All the same, the game is pumped full of story and dialogue. But, judging from your well thought out opinion, I'm pretty sure you probably don't care about the reality of it all.

Well..the only way we'll know which one will do better is when both are released, since both are about the same time. One thing we can be sure of is that we'll get it before christmas.

Also, does anyone know what EQ2's naming policy will be like?

Everyone's different...I'm confident EQ2 will do well with all the oldtime EQ1ers going over

I've played both, and EQ2 is definitely much better imo. Infact, i just took a trip to Matrix Online after being gone for over a month, and when i met NPCs, the first thing i did was spam clicked on them, because i kept waiting to hear their voice (dialogue text are in your normal chat window, and doesn't pop up like it does in WoW)... but then realized that there were no voice overs, and i had to READ the text. Now that might not be a big deal for you, especially since all this time, that's what we had to do. But after you experience a game with complete voiceovers for every single dialogue that's in the game, you quickly become adapted to it and actually expect it, and not having voiceovers kills the immersion.

And lets not forget the graphics... really, screenshots does absolutely NO justice to it. If you're amazed at the screen shots, wait until you actually see the combat and movements ingame, it's fantastic. I won't spoil anything, since we're still under the NDA... but this game is definitely living up to it's hype... and there was A LOT of it.

An article on WoW raiding was posted this week on the main site. It's a very interesting read, sounds like they have some great ideas in the works in that respect.

But I guess one of the major factors to me is that I can play WoW at full graphics settings (looks nice) and it runs great. But EQ2 will require me to spend around $300+ to run as well.

If anyone has an EQ2 invite to spare I'd be willing to accept it btw :D

Sorry that dont mean crap to me I think after being in the beta its yet another hype monster =(
I also have played EQ2.. and when I MMO game 99% of the time sound is off or minimized as Im watching movies or listening to music or playing an Xbox game at the same time i dont usally take the time to read anything except the MEAT of the quest ie what to get where to bring it to..
Thats all i do in other games the speech just makes you have to pay more attention and stand around longer to listen to thier speil =P

give me Cosmos and WOW where the quest comes up instantly and i can just view the real quest...

As for grafics.. I prefer WoWs grafics.. the animation for EQ2 looks horrible in motion..
nothing moves even close to realistacally..
the more they try to mirror real life the more I see wrong with things..

well see what happens.. As I said I loved old EQ...
but hated the new engine patch that came with luclin and ALWAYS used the low res better looking models they had at release...
the new "improved" models all sucked except for the Tiger people (cant remeber what they were called back then they changed the name in EQ2)

CVSin:

Why do you keep talking about artifact armor and weapons? There are NO artifact or legendary items in the game yet.... There are magical (green), superior (blue), and epic (purple). There will eventually be legendary (red) and artifact (orange) items, but they arent in yet. I don't know what you mean by "epic level 20+ encounters".... Unless you are talking about the deadmines, which isnt really epic. Once you get higher, go to BRD, BRD, Strat or Scholomance, thats epic. And WoW really is a big grind. The quests make it varied, but basically its just another grind....

Ill give both a try but my guess is WoW will have longer staying power than EQ2.
I did enough PVE in daoc to last a lifetime ;)

I doubt you're even in beta if you say this. You're probably still looking at the old animation videos. Tell me, what server are you on and what's your char's name (you can PM me)?
