One thing that's clear to me about WoW......it's an old school MMORPG. If EQ2 does something innovative and fresh, it will leave WoW and other EQ1 clones in the dust. The clones struggle just to get their game to work properly.....look how long WoW has been in beta. I hoping EQ2 developers can focus more on content and gameplay innovations as they already know how to get a MMORPG to work properly.
WoW is hardly an old school game..
it has many many things that are new being tried in this game...
the rest system is very smart and is a blizzard only idea...
The Dungeon system is very smart having static entrances and common areas and then breaking it into instances for just your party.. (has not been done similar to this in other games)
the whole economy thing is very unique to wow.. very few sellable non crafted items in the game... almost all good loot including every day stuff is bind on pickup or bind on equip...
the entire combat systrem is unique to WoW the combat system behind the rogue and warrior speciffically are very cutting edge and fun..
best melee system ever...
Right now I have already payed for wow in full... and being in the closed beta since it was an Alpha.. with the rapid changes and the open beta coming VERY soon... look for this product to hit before Xmas I would bet..
They just pushed another very large patch last night albight a VERY broken one... but they just added item wear which is very borked right now...
EQ2 is a system hog (even on an A64 3400 2 gigs of ram with a FX 6800GT it can chug) its also a very very long grind... which casual gamers have no chance of ever maxing out 1 char let alone trying more than 1... The crafting looks good as do certain other aspects...
but its still EQ1 with a fancy new engine and some new stuff.. long grind with nothing else to do but grind to max level and get the best items and be the first to do things...
my entire guild is in the EQ beta.. and I sit across from a Senior Guide that is in charge of the guides that are working on the EQ2 beta server... I have seen him on the beta server from work... and he says the same thing.. expect a SUPER SUPER long grind... he said each level feels like 2 EQ1 levels...
sorry but Im not going to grind just for the sake of grinding.. L2 was like this with a hollow PVP system and it was not fun...
as of right now I will be going with the game I at least can gain a level or 2 a night even in my 40s
WoW is it for sure...
with the rest system and 200% bonus exp when I get to play alot on weekends and even the normal easier levels the game is fun and not stressful and doesnt punish me if im a casual gamer.
Sony shoulda learned by now...
grind does not = a good game
