I have an Epson Stylus Photo 780 and bought carts from Megatoner. I too got the not an Epson cart when I installed the new carts. I instaled as per directions that came with the cart and it worked immediately, but the next time I turned the printer on I got notices that the cart. is not recognised and it will not print. What's up with that?

I have an 820 and have played a bit with it. It can produce great photo's. You need to experiment with different papers and color settings for the printer, but the effort will pay off. If you print a lot of 8x10's you can suck the colored ink down pretty quick, but this is true for any color ink jet. One word of advice. DON'T LEAVE THIS PRINTER ON 24/7! It's meant to be turned off by using the off button on the printer. That stows the print head and seals it off. If you don't do this the ink can dry in the print head, and you'll never get it clear. I had to RMA my first 820 to Epson because I left it on continually. (They were real nice about exchanging it though, and even paid the shipping both ways.)

I got mine today.... it seems that I only get great results with the Epson paper. The Kodak stuff I had laying around doesn't look anywhere near as good, but the Epson paper it came with looks fantastic. Luckily the Epson paper is pretty reasonably priced and I've found Epson.com is actually the best place to order it.. no tax and no shipping charge and the price is better than Staples and the same as Best Buy.

coyw or anyone else, do you get just as good looking prints with the Megatoners cartridges? Since the Epson paper appears to make a huge difference, I wonder if I'll see any loss in quality going to generic inks.

Epson printer heads are tied to the unit, not the cartridge like HP does (so each ink change = new print heads). As a result, the heads can clog. I abused my old Stylus Color 800 by leaving on long periods of time, letting it sit for months with old cartridges in it... after 2.5 years I was forced to buy an 820 with rebate. works nicely, trying not to abuse it. Yes, I have had some problems with trying to find cheap ink for it, I think I'll have to stick with epson stuff. There's supposed to be a "hack" to reset the chip, or at least that's what I remember some people chatting about months ago.
