Lexmark ink prices are the most expensive of all. They ring in over $35 per cartridge at OD while Epsons and HPs are at the mid to high 20s. I know OD prices are high compared to Fry's or online, but everywhere else Lexmark cartridges are more costy than the rest.

Just get HP printers or Canon printers. They may be more suitable for you.

This is because you buy new print-heads with every new cartridge. That's what I hate about Epson is that you cannot readily remove the print-heads and clean them manually.

I LOVE Lexmark.

Well, I don't know about you people, but

1) I've had my Epson 740 since March 2000,
2) it still works without problems, and
3) I've always used third-party ink...

Mind you, the 740 was one of the most wanted machines at the time, right here on Anandtech.

got rid of all the Epson printers and went HP

I did the exact opposite. My HP was costing me an a$$ load in ink and the print quality was garbage. I know have and 820 and while it does clog up every now and then, its still cheaper and better looking photos.

my experience with EPSON:

GREAT text

HORRIBLY slow pictures

KILLS ink--which is costly

LEXMARK: cheap, ugly, but atleast dependable... but kills ink too

my current CANON S520: superb printer. the speed is amazing for an inkjet. ive printed sooooo much text and pictures and its still on its first cartridge.. never failed me once. old canon bubblejets used to suck but this one is awesome

I've had an Epson 880 for a while now, and it has been awesome. I don't do a ton of heavy printing, but I stuck to their ink cartridges and it has been flawless every time I use it. I had an older Epson before and it truly sucked a**, but it was a very low end model.

i had one. i used so much cheap ink. now the printer broke. i thought the print heads clogged but they just would not clean out, no matter what. so i got the 820. i wish they would make the 740 again. 🙁

whats worse, paying $30 a cartridge and getting great looking text that you could use for anything, or paying $20 a cartridge and getting prints that should be used as cat box litter?

canon uses individual ink tanks so that, in theory, you don't throw out any ink you haven't used. though really, when you're about to run out of red aren't you about to run out of blue as well, usually? the thing canon has over epson is you can remove the heads and clean them or buy new ones easily, instead of epson when you have to trash the whole printer.

I got my Epson Photo 780 from HSN a year ago and it's just dandy. The photos are PHOTOS! And it was $35 !
And I use megatoners. But the ink heads do clog.
On a side note..it was skipping after a cartidge change and I couldn't fix it. Printed from a networked pc and everything was fine after that.
Who knows? But I've had problems with HP's before so I am very happy with my superior photos from my Epson.

I have an Epson 860, and its been acting up for almost a year now. The head is leaking or something, but every page i print leaves black streaks all over the page, and sometimes even blobs of black ink! And somehow the head managed to leak ink on the rollers too, so I had to throw out a good 20 pages because there was ink all over my printouts. The head clogs much too often for my taste, and I sometimes have to do 2-3 clean cycles before each nozzle works properly. I'll admit, it prints great on photo paper in HQ mode, but on regular paper, it usually leaves pink streaks in the pictures. My old Epson printer from 1996 never had these problems!

Had the same prob.figgin thing was always clogging and blowing it's nose with expensive ink..so I left it out at the curb.........🙁...Bought a HP930c and haven't had a prob.since..over a year now..........🙂

Got mine in early 2000 and have had zero problems.😀

I have an epson and I use it rarely. The print heads to clog often, and if I could go back in time I'd buy an HP. My Dad's comp has an HP hooked up to it, and that thing is as reliable as all-get-out.

Never had a problem with my Lexmark 3200 until the holder that holds the colour ink broke, after about 1500pages and 2 years, but I have an almost 2 year old HP 932c that I've put over 2000pages through, refilled and off brand cartridges into, and it works great.

u love my hp 7350 photo printer. i print a lot of photos, and though it goes through cartridges fast, the cartridges are the easiest things in the world to change.

Reasons why I gave up on inkjet technology and went for good old tried and true laser printers. Not like I printed in color anyways.

All inkjets suck IMHO. I have had the most luck with HP (except that damn 180 degree paper path!!) followed by Canon. Laser all the way baby!

Take IT BAACCCKKKK!! 😉

OK, seriously though I've had my 880i for about two years now. Its still working great and 60% of the catridges that I used were generic.

I can't complain about their service. I called today about my printer, and I should have a replacement by Tuesday. I bet it's a refurb though.

I love my Xerox docuprint M750. Probably printed 30,000 pages easy. still going strong.
