I have an Epson C-80 Printer... in designing it Epson did one of the worst things ever. They made it so if one color runs out you cannot print at all... for example, if yellow runs out completely and you have a full black cartridge, you cannot do any printing whatsoever.

anyone know a work around for this model printer?

yeah i had an epson c-60 with the same problem
then they try to charge you 35 bucks for a new cartridge

i ended up adding it to the pile of epson and lexmark printers that don't work on my porch

maybe you can get one of those ink refill kits instead of actually buying a new cartridge
but i havn't tryed this yet

What I did was pull out the color tank, shake it, pop it back in and it think it's got a full tank again. Then I rape the crap out of it again until it can't bleed anymore.

Thats not a flaw! The printer does that by design to prevent damage to the print heads.

You should have checked here before you bought that Epson.

There is a class action lawsuit against Epson for this dirty trick.

If you can, take the Epson back and get a Canon i560 or a i860

I`ve finally retired my Epson C70 printer,ordered a Canon i865 printer :).

I`ve had colour ink run out on my C70( same as C80 apart from speed) however it still lets me print black text documents etc.

Was there ever a lawsuit regarding the "dirty trick" that was played on people who had printers that have printers with all single cartrigdges (ie black, cyan, magenta and yellow in one catridge). You know, the ones that made you buy an entirely new one when yellow ran out? Personally, I don't see the problem, I like my C82. I also don't print using the color ink if I don't need it (you can set this in the advanced properties). That's the work around I suggest, only print in color when you need it.

A quote from Epson;

"The printer will automatically stop working when there is no more safely usable ink in the cartridge," Epson explains in a written statement. The company says users get all the ink they pay for, because Epson charges for cartridges based on usable ink volume and printed pages per cartridge".

Who believes that a portion of the ink Epson puts in it's cartridges is "free"? They would like us to believe that they fill that cartridge with ink, but only charge us for what we can actually use. Uh-huh.

I have a C80, and have many times removed an "empty" cartridge that when shaken, felt to be half full. I wish I had a scale that would measure the weight of a full versus "empty".

If they are concerned about print head "damage", all that would be needed is to have ink down in the well in the bottom of the cartridge holder. The printer will refuse to print anyway, so why would any more than that be needed.

I should say that I am not involved in the suit and have no intentions of becoming involved. This said, it is wrong for me to be required to replace a half full ink cartridge just to continue printing.

For any C80 owners out there that belong to Costco, be sure to check out their price on cartridges. Not on line, only in the stores.

i have an epson 777, i know its a POS ive had it for like 3 years, but it also does this, i hate it, the advanced option of just printing in black doesnt work, cause it always complains about not having any color ink

I BELIEVE THAT THE LAWSUIT STATES THERE IS UP TO 38% OF THE INK LEFT.

I've personally removed all the ink from an HP 45 black cartridge after the software said it was low and it had about 40% of the stated volume left.

At least with the Canons you can visually see how much is left.

When the software says it's low it really IS low, as well.
