Better yet, wait until VT fixes the GF4 cards mounting problem, then the GF4 will fit in all boards like it should. >>
It is not just VT. The Epox doesn't conform to AGP 2.0 standards. As for MSI it has no bearing on me as I own the Epox. >>
So you own the Epox. But I doubt you own the GF4, so what bearing does that have on you now?
Seems like most posts at forums complaining about this "so called problem", are from people
that don't even have the board or the problem. Yes, I do believe that there may be a VT revision
of the GF4 that fits badly, but based on reports, all those that have been getting the VT cards now,
say that they do indeed fit. Why don't you just wait until you get a card, then go from there?
There are many, many more reports of the VT, MSI and PNY GF4 cards fitting in the Epox than there
are of a couple VT GF4's not fitting. Also, the majority of sites reviewing the GF4 used the Epox 8kha+
in part of their tests. Even if the tested GF4 was a reference design that "VT swayed from", it would
seem that with all those testing, and with the huge popularity of the Epox, VT screwed up. If a fitting
problem was noticed by the review sites, this would have been one of the first things they mentioned.
But it wasn't, as it is NOT AN ISSUE. Based on price and release, who has the most responsiblity, the
$59 delivered Epox board (newegg refurb), or the $300 GF4 1st version?
One last point. The Epox has proven to be one of the best boards for the power user. So why bring
up the VT GF4 board to go with it? That would be almost like using a Duron in the 8kha+ instead of an XP.
Geez, while the VT boards work, they are at the bottom tier when it comes to power users. Read the
reports. Seems like many users are having to lower the FSB in order for the VT GF4 to work. Going from
146fsb prior to VT, to 140fsb after getting VT, is not uncommon. No thanks. I'll keep my $59 Epox MB
with it's 200MHz fsb, and get a different video card. Try overclocking the VT. Falls short when compared
to other manufactuers. For a couple dollars more, a Gainward or even the MSI board, is a much better
choice. Even PNY makes boards as good or better than VT.
BTW, I own VT boards because I am cheap. Wish I could have kept the GS's I tested..
But I can't complain if it won't work with previous parts.
That's why I don't go to Win XP. It doesn't work with all the previous parts. (such as NU2001, MBM, etc).
Maybe we should Petition MS....... It sounds just as stupid.............
