If the CIA assassinated Julian Assange I would have absolutely no problem with it. He is an enemy of this country.

Why, for outing a bunch of people leaking classified documents? Assange isn't the one leaking the documents. If anything he's bringing to light all the problems our classified programs have and will end up resulting in better security in the long run.

Right?

The whole "he's an enemy of the state!" is bullshit nonsense.

I don't think it has anything to do with what he does but moreso the fact he's such a self righteous wanker.

He's an ass, but that's the extent of my complaints against him. If there wasn't anything worth leaking then this shit wouldn't happen. Keep fewer secrets from us, imo.

Buh, it was leaked to wikileaks, who then has the moral question to leak it to the world or to let those beings in power that this information HAS been leaked. One method makes wikileaks an enemy of the country (or countries) the other does not.

There's a million horrible things that happen every day on every continent and in every country. Just because some albino with a martyr complex decides he wants to "report" on it doesn't make it any more important. People have to pick their battles, if you take every tragedy and wrongdoing to heart, you'll just drive yourself mad.

That said I think it's often easier to hate a manipulative douchebag than an evil bastard.

None of that means anything to me. I just don't like that the things he leaks are secret to begin with. It makes me have zero sympathy for the government or company he leaks stuff against.

Don't have anything to "leak" and this wouldn't be a problem.

That makes zero sense. Control the leaks, yes. But to say that we shouldnt have any secrets and nothing to leak, that just doesnt make any sense.

You mean like the names of Afghanis assisting U.S. troops? Sorry there is some things the U.S government has to keep secret.... because if Beev knows... so does China, North Korea, the taliban, etc.

He's definitely a polarizing figure.

I'll be on the "Assange FTW!" bandwagon

Have ANY of the wikileaks been like that? There are leaks that directly resulted in the loss of the life of our soldiers? Because as far as I've seen it's just been leaks about shitty practices that are ONLY kept secret because the actions are wrong, not because it saves lives. I haven't seen all of the leaks, though, so if those exist please link them to me.

His sense of justice is completely perverted and he's a complete hypocrite in doing his damnedest to hide his own sources while being so cavalier with everyone else's information. He's all that's sacred to himself, and the only thing he gives a damn for is his attention and the spotlight.

If it was just about the disclosure of wrongdoings, then fine. But it's not. He makes a spectacle out of it all to get attention (and from the sounds of it, cash) and then holds out and holds out on the information that he'll play up as though it's of the most dire nature; then when it's out it's rarely even safely edited.

And it goes without saying that's a significant departure from "Don't have anything to "leak" and this wouldn't be a problem.".

great idea, burn your sources that enabled you to get famous, and deter new sources from coming forth ever again.

what a douche. way to champion the cause.

the only thing you got were some shitty diplomatic cables and war diary. big deal. now the real shit is going to be hidden and under tighter lock and key now dipshit.

I guess we're just different types of people when it comes to this stuff, because nothing in that link bothers me.

I have yet to understand why people think that releasing our secrets is a great idea.

Do you guys live in some fantasy land where the US has no enemies or allies? Do you really think George Washington would have advocated releasing all of his communications between himself and France to Britain? Or would have Jefferson or Adams done the same?

The state must have secrets and the people should understand that there is oversight in Congress.

Having open kimono with these and thinking it is "right" is simply being a naive little prick.

The traitor should be hung and any Wikileaks people under US jurisdiction should be tried for espionage and treason.

This isn't a goddamn game of chutes and ladders. The real world is full of people who hate us and would love nothing more than see us fall. Grow up.
