It's really only a few people but those few people have made it seem like there are trolls everywhere. Funny isn't it?

heh, weve been missing the good old days since the good old days ;)
it was just a very fun time to be here, constant quality info being posted every day kept us very interested and busy.
unfortunately i dont think speed or even OCing is much of an issue these days, systems are fast enough.

im currently running a P4N 2.26b @ 3.5ghz in a silent (no fans) case using default voltage on air :D

(my rig is quieter then yours! :p )

i really think one of the biggest problems is the slowdown of progress in the technology world. i remember when there used to be weekly tech magazines that wereabout 500 pages long. now, they are monthly, and maybe 30 pages, mostly just adds. i think if there was more to talk about new technology, and experiments with it, than just, what products are more economical, and helping people build rigs, and helping people with their computer problems, this forum could be a lot better.

Wouldn't it be great to get back to pushing hardware to the extreme and posting it for all to see, and ignoring the trolls and idiots who do nothing more than post flame-bait?

Absolutely! The best part about AT Forums is the traffic. With all the people visiting you get lots of good feedback and suggestions. Unfortunately you also get a bunch of rotten apples who crap threads non stop.

I remember that time you're talking about. I remember there were a bunch of you who were so annoyed by the immaturity that you moved to another forum, and invited me as a source for AMD info since it was mainly Intel users at the time. I still post there from time to time. But I like the traffic AT has... I can get replies to posts in seconds. These forums have become more like a chat room than a message board.

I have a Windows XP x64 trial. Maybe I'll install a bunch of games and programs on it and do a huge comparison between it and Windows XP Pro SP2... ya know, like the old days. ;)

I really don't know what to think of this thread . I agree to disagree. Look guys and gals.
All here keep up with the present tech. So we are all aware of whats going on right now . But when you start talking about things that aren't here and is in the pipeline people speculate. Some without doing research(bad thing). My point is in these situations it is mandatory . Yes I said manditory to debate this . There is Flaming . But not all debates are Flaming or trolling. But name calling and passing out insults takes you out of the debate arena and makes you a flamer or a troll
I am intel fangirl that doesn't mean I don't see AMD 64 is very good tech. It just means I well debate on the Intel side of things.(this is a good thing its not bad)
My present system 3.2c $220
corsair BH5 1ghz. $400
2 dual layer DVD $130
1 floppy $20
1 x800xt pe Free
Lian Li case $190
Water cooling $450 (RAID COMPUTERS Retail price) (my cost a lot less)
PC power and cooling modular PS $300
@ raptor hardrives $300
Total $2000- (water cooling)True cost not given
When David built this it may have been expensive but right now today it is a top performing pc ( Not the fastest but no body can shame this thing and Davids Pc is truely outstanding) same cost.
So for myself and David. true value and performance is how long before you have to do a serious upgrade.
In my cost above I left out M/B $200 and the first video card $299( I don't know how much David sold this for)( GPU) So were talking roughly $2700
So excuss me for sometimes going a little to far but we (myself & David) are very pleased with intel products. We haven't really experianced the P4P Thing as David was wise enough to stay away from these things.
So infact you want the debates (not the insults and name calling)
So there you have it I Admit my Bios(bias) and I don't see that changing unless Intel truely disappoints us in 06

I doubt it. What are you doing about wailing video card fan? PSU Fan? HSF? I have none of those;)

I don't know Z but I personnally think that O/C is an opcion that allows you to keep up with next gene products if you desire . But your right when I first O/C this pc (recently) I was impressed with the benchies but ya know what ? When using it I didn't notice any change at all but the benchies said there was a change. David says that to really notice a change in the feel of the pc you need around a 25% speed improvement . and he should know even though his is around 30% faster than mine . I can really feel the differance when I am on his PC.

Sorry, doing my best to contribute meaningfully around here, some of the most fun I have had was collecting my parts for my celly-mobile media box and OC'ing nearly 100%. My A64 & P4 oc'ing experience has been less than stellar, hopefully I get a ringer to brag about sometime! I just know by the time I get a San Diego core they will all crap out at like 2.5 even with a eleventy-million volts...sigh...

:)

Personally I like this forum a lot, I only hit here, Video, FS/FT, and Hot Deals. So many smart and willing to help people around here!

*edit* Zap, thanks for the trip down memory lane for those of us who were not privileged enough to have a reason to be here! What happened to that mod? Where they not anonymous (sp?) at some point?

Btw how does one apply to be a mod?

I was wondering that as well. It would be a pretty neat side job.

I agree though there have been a recent surge of trolls/fanboy. I wish we could get rid of them, however they are not technically breaking any rules. Although they are annoying as hell, and they are spreading blatant lies about products, they are not doing things against the rules of the forums. I dont know if anyone knows a way around that, or a rule that they did break.

So you managed to cool that 6800U+++ quietly??? That's what made me switch to water, those two loud 60mm fans on there spinning@~6000rpm... real screamers. I bought one of those nV artic cooling things did'nt work out so well. Ran about 70C and was still noisy. Now , with a block I run 45C max.

Anyhow, now I have a no chipset fans, no case fans, no PSU fan other than whats on my black ice pro III radiator 3 x 120mm nexus @ 5-7Volts sucking though system and out three blow holes in top.

Glad to hear you're satified.. Air should always be first option (see sig) since it's signifigantly cheaper, less work, less messy.

Hehe, I have a Keleron? that will POST at a 100% overclock. Gives me a woody to see a $50 1.6GHz CPU turn on at 3.2GHz, if'n ya know whatt'a mean? Too bad it isn't stable at that speed.

I think they weren't publicised as mods but some members were just known to be mods. This guy would invent alter egos to post here. WombatWoman was a suspected fake person. As for the "main event" leading to the demise of a moderator...

Murderer confesses on Anandtech forum

I kinda feel sorry for the guys (forgot who) who had the gumption to step up to the forums and expose the truth. Those guys were harassed up and down the message boards for discovering the truth about Nowheremom.

Just bash your guide out and we'll take care of the grammar and spellings.

Ahhh, the spelling flame wars of old on newsgroups... more memories...

Ah yes, my 1.6 "Keleron" will post at 3.2 as well, and get into windows even... freakin awesome! I am already at 1.675 volts for the little babies though, so no more voltage as that is already on the high side. It is a $40 processor though, so, eh, when the 1.8 burns out in goes the 1.6 :D

Thanks for the link to that register article, I am going to go to a web archive and see if can pull up some more of the links. Can't believe someone would do that... I would have been totally taken in as well, without a doubt!
