Heh. It's a bullshit double standard that nothing can be done about. Blacks are allowed to use it liberally, without having to face any consequences, but God forbid someone else using it. It's a shame that one standard isn't applicable to everyone.

..that's true. In many circles it's replaced the word "hello" or is used as an exclamation in conversation.

This kid was a boy scout, football player, and was on the honor roll. I'm inclined to believe him when he says he didn't say the word first. The teacher admitted to saying "sit down ******". He should get suspended AT LEAST. I don't see why everyone is defending this guy. ATOT has ****** up morals. You defend corporate greed, racists, and other such scumbags. If you've never been called and ******, shut up. Nuff said.

The teacher must've watched Richard Pryor. If ya all have seen it, he talks about the two different phrases as well.

ROFL... I first thought it was a black guy that got suspended for saying it.

Well I'm not defending the teacher because he misused this highly sensitive word at the wrong place and wrong time but I am defending my right to use it. If society(especially black people) find it so damn insulting then they should practice what they preach should they not? If they continue to use it, they are only telling us it's ok to use it too. Why do they get special treatment just because they're black? They fought for equal rights and be treated fairly... they got it and it's ironic that now we have to fight for the same thing.

I'm black. I don't use it. I shouldn't have to tolerate you using a derogatory and insensitive word. I don't want special treatment. I don't want to walk down the street and hear everyone saying n-this, n-that.

And you know what... There is a double-standard. I really have no problem with black people using it because I KNOW that their not using it in a pejorative manner. If a white person says it, I have no idea what their intentions were (removing consideration such as voice inflection). Besides, black people have taken the word ****** and turned it into a term of endearment used by and towards other black people. When white people use the term they usually do it mockingly, ergo removing the endearment associated with it's usages.

I'm sorry but this is how the world works, you can't expect a person not to use the word when it's used so often by the people who take it so seriously, it makes you hypocrites. I live in NYC when I come home from work there a bunch of minority(of all races) teens that hang outside the building. I know some of them well and they(esp the black kids) will greet me by that word(And I'm chinese) but I know better so I've never actually used it back towards them but to my more immediate and closer clique of friends, I will on occasion use it.

Black people can call each other ******. It's a double standard just like the New Orleans mayor talking about making his city Chocolate. If a white mayor said that he would have been kicked out of office.

I'm inclined to believe the teachers version of the story, black people make up stories to cry racism so often now days.

Ok, it's bad for a teacher to be using 'gangsta slang': he should be using proper english and lead by example.

Having said that, calling somone a niga is OK IMO. It depens on the context. What's wrong with calling a mate 'my ******'? I sometimes do, it's just light hearted fun. . Blacks use the word all the time, and many blacks are hugely racist towards the white, but this is always ignored. Why?

it's unprofessional, but between friends, it's cool.

That is exactly where the problem lies. You can't expect to say whatever the hell you want and then get pissed off when others say the same thing. One standard will work perfectly fine for me. Before you go criticizing the teacher for dropping the N bomb, go talk to the huge entertainment industry and make them stop first. It is their liberal use in their music and movies that leads people to believe it is acceptable to use such language.

Stop being a hypocrite and stick to one standard.

It's also true, it's happened to me enough to make it far from an isolated occurance. The race card is overplayed, stop being idealistic and accept the fact that theres a serious problem with it in this country.

Seems like a smart english teacher to me 🙂
This reminds me of the english teacher in Donnie Darko where she was expected to be so politically correct all the time that she was unable to teach the literature she wanted to teach.

Some of the people in this thread need to meet a black person or two. You guys do realize that not every black person liberally uses the n-word (also -ger, -ga, and -gah are the same damn thing) like you try so hard to believe. And which idiot said that it's racist because black people made it racist? Do you even know what the f*ckin word means idiot?

There are plenty of blacks out there who hate the word and never use it. I can't believe some people in this thread are trying to agree with this teacher. What if he was a black teacher and called a white kid a honkey? you'd prolly want him lynched. What about words like chinks, gooks, beautiful ray of sunshine, cracker, pollack, slant-eye, beloved patriot, etc... in this context do you think its ok for any teacher to drop any of these words on their kids? NO!

I don't see chinese people call each other chinks, I don't see vietnamese people call each other gooks and so on... Until black people learn to respect themselves all it will do is create a double standard. If they use the N-ga in their music, in their movies and everything else so freely then I should not be criticized when I use it too. Because everyones personalities are influenced by the people around them and if these people are often exposed to this word they will learn to use it in their daily language whether it's deragatory or not. And here's the kicker, they learn to use it from black people.

So if your next door neighbor calls his wife "Sweetie pie" does that mean it's OK for you to call his wife "Sweetie pie" too? Or would that be overly familiar, and therefore inappropriate?

I bet if everyone were gay this wouldn't be a problem right

😀 😀 Obvious FTW.

I don't get why that kid wants to hurt the teacher so badly. He cost him 10 days pay but that isn't enough... the kid wants him to lose the job he's had for over 20 years for his awkward and stupid attempt at fitting in with the kids.
