LOL. So what is the Philadelphia attitude ?
who cares if its represeantative or not...this is america...these immigrants all speak english!
I do not think its at all unreasonable fopr them to expect others to speak english!
Good for them!! Has nothing to do with being Nazi!
I have traveled in many many foreign country where if you didnt speak the language you were SOL!!
Which countries were they?
I don't know what countries JEDIYoda might have traveled to (and I can't imagine him dealing with "foreigners" very well...), but in my experience, almost everywhere you go you can get by without knowing too much of the local language. I spent a week in Italy without even knowing how to ask where the bathroom was (it was in my little book, but I didn't have to use the phrase once). Everyone spoke at least enough English for me to get by, even in some of the more out of the way places like a little hole in the wall place in Naples. And that's Italy, a country that isn't quite on par with the US diversity-wise.
Given that, it seems like we're being a bunch of jackasses about the issue. Yeah, it would be nice if people all spoke English, but the whole common wisdom about how we're the only country that lets you get away with not knowing the language is a bunch of bull...at least as far as English is concerned.
Well put. Actually I was calling out JEDIYoda, as I have a hard time believing he speaks several foreign languages; he can't even punctuate his English!
Its flattering that what I say would concern you enough to post something ignorant about calling me out!! lolol
feralkid call me out all you want! English is my 4th language not my primary language!
Also this is the internet its not a frekin doctrinal thesis where everything needs to be puntuated perfectly!
You want to speak polish or Russian or Czech feel free to PM me in any of those languages and we can have a conversation..
Since I have been told its against the rules of these forums I would have posted this in one of those 3 languages.
There are many places in slavic countries especially out in the rural areas where you truly
are SOL if you speak no english.
You go to the bigger or even moderately sized cities and YES people will try to help you.
YES english is now being taught and has been taught for some time now in the schools instead of Russian as when I was growing up!
But in the rural areas of many countries...especisally your slavic countries you are still SOL.
People will still try to help you...especially if you hold your private parts and jump up and down its pretty obvious what your trying to say.
Anybody can say they went on a trip to Europe to see the sights.
Been there and done that.
You are correct about Italy and a few of its neighbors but once you hit the country alot of the time you really are SOL!!
Its nice to be called out....but grow up. I have traveled extensively through Europe!
Germany, Romania, Hangary, Russia, Ukraine,Czech Rep and France and Poland.
But hey i don`t know ******...so go figure!
Just becuase you didn`t have a hard time communicating in Italy doesn`t mean that your experiences hold true throughout all of Europe!
