I've never been to the UK but I'd love to go. If you have an opportunity to live and work there I'd jump at it!

I think having a perspective of someplace other than America, or even other than where you grew up, is a great thing and will only work to your advantage later in life.

Go for it!

is that a chav?

Yes, here we see the "chav" in it's native environment. Be careful, or he might become enraged.

Here we go...

This looks like typical drunken white trash.

Sounds about right, probably lives somewhere in stratford-upon-avon and talks with a fake cockney accent because he thinks that it's 'cool', too.

Sure, but the cultural center of the world? Sorry, but I don't think we can say that the world's culture revolves around any single city or place.

Don't worry I don't think London is the cultural center of the world either.

Just thought your comment was funny with the RAWR thing as I haven't seen that in a while :)

Oh yeah the food portions are less also and you have a lot less fat people about :p but that doesn't mean you don't have a lot of fat people about though :p

My aunty and uncle came over from the States and that was the first thing they noticed. Less fat people about and that the portions were less :p

lol @ chavscum website. Crazy.

Didn't you watch the documentary on Sky One about chavs?

Funny as fuck, I was trying to rip the bitch out of the TV the entire program.

Oh and London was stated to be the cultural city of the world, can't remember where or why, but it is, or at least was.

London is a city that lives in the glory of its past and doesn't realize that it is no better than any large city in a third world nation.

America is a country that believes the rest of the world isn't merely tolerating it's presence. Now STFU.

not all of the world is able to tolerate us.

I'm tolerating us, but then again I live here :)

The comment about everyone being money hungry here in the US seems to be from the "Yuppie" era about 15 years ago. People still seem to have this attitude in New York and some coastal cities, but the rest of the country is swinging towards a more "get back to basics" way of life. Things like living in the country, spending time with the family, and other family oriented activities are in style now. SUV's are slowly loosing popularity due to record gas prices. I think eco cars like the Prius will show up more and more as other car companies see the demand (the Prius is selling like crazy lately).

The problem with stereotypes is they're usually based on old information and brought about by the actions of a relatively few noticed people. An example as how the US sees people in the UK, we think they're all snobby, have bad teeth, and are porn crazy. I know this is not true at all, but it's just an example of how countries view other countries is usually not very accurate.

Have you ever been to Miami? IIRC, it's the most populated city in Florida, which is the second most populated state in the US. Going from rich to poor is like hitting a wall there. It's amazing how nobody cares. I've been there a couple of times now, and it just seems like it's the last place I'd want to live. Sure, the "good" parts of town are great, but the purposeful ignorance of poverty among the rich makes me want to vomit. Imagine being a millionare and not wanting to help impoverished people less than a block away!

The racism is terrible too, and it's strongly linked to the economic differences. (I'll admit, however, that the problems are more economic than racial.) There seem to be three distinct groups that wouldn't be caught dead associating with eachother: Latinos, African Americans, and whites (which include Asians and anybody who isn't black or hispanic).

Now that I live in Orlando, I see the same things going on. Everybody uses terms like "Little Mexico" and "Little China" to refer to the little communities that ban together in the face of economic and social differences. It's sad, actually. The thing that bothers me most is not the exitence of economic differences but rather the lack of caring and acknowledgement of those differences by the haves.

If I wasn't so damn poor myself I'd help them out, but I'm waiting until payday just to buy food.

I dunno why half the people in this thread are harping on about bloody London.
London is one city in the UK, don't like it? Don't like there. Duh.
You'd probably be better off talking to Americans who moved to the UK than anything else. Dunno how many of them would be about though, or if you know any.
(Oh, and way to bump the thread :p)

Add Fawlty Towers to that, and yeah, you're pretty much set.

Which is on the outskirts of West London

My area still falls into the Greater London catchment.

And, I'm moving back into Central in a few weeks :D

It'll be good to be home, 4 years here have been a killer.

Yup, yup.

Still trying to decide which district I want to move to, might go back to South Kens', also looking at Islington though.
