It's expensive as hell.

Free healthcare.

There you have it. Gosh, sometimes I'm so ashamed to be an American. Europeans are smarter than us. They know to pay more taxes for their own benefits.

You are a dumbass. The heathcare system in England is shit. Did you not even read MmmSkyscraper's post?

DIAF.

Well, I've been thinking about moving to England. From what I've heard, the attitude of the general public seems different. I like the Eurpoean ideology that I've heard about. What do you think? Is it safer? Are the people smarter than average Americans? Is the public culture less hedonistic? Are the people less selfish?

America's great, but part of what makes it great is also of what I hate about it. The government overspends on the military. Everybody wants to get rich like Bill Gates and trample their fellow man in the process. Nobody wants to pay taxes to support a real education system.

What about the culture shock? If I hate this culture, do I stand a good chance fitting into that one? Will I embarass myself every day for the first several months?

What about jobs? Is Vauxhall doing well enough that it could use an American engineer (master's or Ph.D. in ME from UCF) in a few years? Is it true that all British jobs, from cashiers to CEO's, are salaried?

I had that thought a while ago. My question is, how would an accountant or a CPA move to England? How much different and how hard would it be to adopt and learn England's financial norms?

I don't have any complaints.

Plus, I'm sure that "DIAF" is not tolerated any more....

is that a chav?

Yes, here we see the "chav" in it's native environment. Be careful, or he might become enraged.

Here we go...

http://chavscum.co.uk/4images/details.php?image_id=1761

both links are as chav as it gets - beware they are multiplying in numbers.

I live in Bristol (SW within mainland England) and I've been out both Fri and Sat night where all the places I went to specificaly stated "no chav's", "no burburrys", "no checks"

London is respective, if you work there you will get paid more to counter-act the extra living costs.

Arrogant brits!!!!!! Excuse me....I think there a few more people who beleive the same about the american way of ilfe

Gas prices, yes they are a little silly, however the average engine here iss a 1.8L/2.0L in-line 4 therefore the MPG is going to be a little better than that of a hemi block

Yup, British people are extremely rude and arrogant. They're consistently ranked as the world's worst tourists. There's a reason why. They have a horrible attitude.

Also, if you're a minority, I would recommend you look into their politics to make sure you know what you're getting yourself into.

Petrol is more PRICEY BUT our DISTANCES ARE SMALLER so it depends on how far you travel to work. If your in the City you won't be drivin in I can almost be certain of that. You will more then likely commute.

The trains 'aren't that bad'. I have used them a lot over the past 3 yrs commuting. YES sometimes it goes AWOL but it is still 'decent' imo.

The Health Care isn't that bad also. YES they make some BIG FVCKING mistakes but what system doesn't? Overall it is 'fine'.

Yes we get RAPED in taxes but it still better off then somewhere 'poor' if you have ever lived in a poor country where people struggle for food.

My parents came from such a country and I am THANKFUL that I DON'T LIVE there anymore and that I live in England.

The grass is always greener on the otherside.

Come to England and live here and if you don't like it move back. At least you had the chance to live here and see what it is like for you. If you live in an iffy neighbourhood you may get shafted. But if you get a nice neighbourhood or just even nice neighbours you are set.

$ to £ is going to kill you but we don't pay stuff that you guys have to pay and vice versa so in the end it works out imo.

London is the cultural centre of the world.

The entire world revolves around our time and our economy.

If there's one thing I hate it's people that bash other peoples countries, especially when it's people bashing my fvcking country.

Sure, but the cultural center of the world? Sorry, but I don't think we can say that the world's culture revolves around any single city or place.

Now, let's set the Wayback machine to take us back to the present. 1450 was a fun year to visit :)
