If you don't need to wear protective padding and equipment to keep from dying then the sport isn't that tough. The stop and go nature of football allows for far more vicious impacts than the circle-jerk wrestling nature of Rugby.

They don't wear protective padding in boxing or other martial arts.

Check out youtube for some hard hits in rugby - this was on the first page. Also note the Haka (Maori wardance) at the beginning. Care to tell those guys they ain't tough?

😕 Boxing gloves?

But I do disagree with bunnyfubbles that Rugby isn't tough. It most certainly is, but folks who act like it is tougher than football because pads aren't worn are just as wrong as bunny is for saying it isn't a tough sport because they don't wear pads.

The ridiculousness of my rebuttal was proportional to the ridiculousness of that which I was responding to (it wouldn't be flame bait if you didn't fight fire with fire 😉). Of course Rugby is a tough sport, but my basic point still stands (even without the sarcasm, note my implication that Rugby is homosexual) and thus you cannot convince me (or any reasonable person) that it is tougher than American Football.

I meant American Football Players. How many English Rugby players are 6'4" weight 260lbs and run a 4.4 forty? None.

At least American football players can conjugate a verb with a singular subject. Well, some.

USA are getting beaten.

Actually, the thread title is fine. In England it's normal to refer to countries, bands, etc. as groups rather than a single entity. I noticed this difference when I moved from England to Canada.

Led Zeppelin are awesome.

Can you imagine everyone suddenly giving up football and rugby and cricket and taking up American sports? Why would they do that? If you want to play the rest of the world at team sports you have to change your own culture, not try to change the other 6 billion of us.

Oh, the irony... The sports you mention were popularized through British colonialism. They didn't change their own culture - they forced the billions under them to change theirs.

Also, people are giving up cricket to play baseball in many countries.

I couldn't find rugby on any of the 400 tv channels I get. It appears
Football > Animals doing funny things > What is supposed to be top tier rugby > English Rugby > American Rugby

Eh? Lawrence Dallaglio is 6'4" 250lb. Yea, most of them aren't that big, but there's a lot more running involved in rugby so you can't really afford to carry as much weight as American football players.

what is this rugby you speak of?

Let me put is this way:

Rugby = Man's game

American Football = Weak

😉

If you're a skinny dude who wears pads while playing 2 hand touch with your friends, that's weak.

If you're a 275 lb defensive end that runs a 4.3 40 yard dash and knocks people out and breaks bones even while the dude is wearing a helmet and pads, that's not weak.
