um thats not true.. the standard in cali is the chassis not the motor...
thats why they take your VIN when you pull in for testing..
as well as model and make...
Yes, that's correct for a stock car. If you have this sticker from the smog ref the car will be tested to the emissions standards of the car the motor came from. That's the whole purpose of getting the sticker.

but again you are using a motor according to that sticker that would be in the same smog catagory as the original..
adding a high polution V8 to a low smog vehicle that never had the option of the V8 motor gets into alot more issues...
Ok...I've seen a guy with a BAR sticker running a LT1 in a S-10.

Besides, its not like a rotary is even close to being a "clean" engine.

Modern V8's aren't exactly high pollution, and the RX-7 is CERTAINLY not "low smog"

IIRC, its legal if the motor is newer than one orinigally in the car and the emissions of the new one are equal or less than stock. Someone else can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about that though... looked it up quite a while ago.

Would you guys know what the chances of going to a TEST ONLY station vs. SMOG station would be?

Maybe 1 out of 10? Cause i know if you go to TEST ONLY, you are screwed.. GAME OVER..

why would you want to put a honda engine in a toyota anyway? Or a GM into a ford? or a dodge into an isuzu? or anything into anything - its hard enough doing engine swaps within the same manufacturer...!

You're not screwed over. Chances are if you have an older car it'll be test only.

BTW, what are you missing from this thread? Its perfectly legal if you do it right SO DO IT RIGHT!

quesiton is, how much MORE money is it gonna take to make it LEGAL? I got a quote out the door for $10,000 engine swap.. Including the engine, custom drive shaft, custom intake, custom radiator, engine tuning.. but that does not include swapping over all the emission systems.. damn.

That s2000 f20 engine in the ae86 can be seen in Best Motoring International 21 - HVI 03 American Togue.

I really don't get it though...why waste all that money unless you're trying to build a racecar of sorts?
