If an engine seized on a car what would I have to do to fix it? What are my options? The car is an 02 Impala.

no, if its not part of the engine, you shouldnt have to replace it, unless something else got fvcked up.

the muffler probably got screwed up too.

I'm trying to keep this as relevant as possible. Don't insult my intelligence.

From lack of oil, or what? You don't necessarily need a new engine if nothing broke, but it would need a total rebuild...

if i wanted to insult your intelligence, i would have asked why you have an 02 impala in the first place. ;)

Why did it sieze?

.......and no.....the only thing that would need replacing is the block/ internals if it is something like a melted/welded piston......

I'm looking into it as a commuter car. I don't like racking up the miles on my other car so I found an 02 Imapala for 4K but it's engine has seized.

There are better deals on running commuter cars. Unless you are skilled and have all the tools to do it yourself, it is a losing proposition. As soon as you pay someone to do anything, you are going into the hole.

Well, if you're going to swap in an engine, maybe it's a good chance for something with more power?

Agreed....although an engine is only ~ $1200. KBB for a 2002 impala with just the 3.4 Liter is up to $8.5K with average miles. If he has the ability it is a worthwhile investment...............

But you can blow the apex seals and score the rotor housings and then you are fuxored.

Which of course should be expected every 75K miles

<----loved my RX7 though

If the engine is seized the owner was probably very bad at maintainance and you will have many more problems if you buy the car. What kind of 3-4 year old car has a seized engine? A piece of junk.

uuuummmmm......what more problems that aren't visible would be likely? A transaxle at most if we are talking routine maintenence.

What 4 year old car has a siezed engine? Does it matter unless the engine model itself shows a pattern of such things? If he has the ability to swap (doesn't seem so by the question) he can come out 3K+ behind book and have a decent car.........not a bad deal.

Back in the day there was a pic floating around of an 01 Impala with an LS1 mounted to a FWD transmission. It could've been fake but it would sure be fun to drive.
