Explain to me again why I would pay 3-4 times the cost for a "warranty" if I could do the job myself?
Engine swaps (same engine) are not hard at all with the proper tools most of which the average person that would ask this question has and the rest (hoist) can be rented for chump change.
Add to that most engines come with a 1 year + warranty..................
Because I'm not explaining it to you. I'm explaining it to the OP, who probably does not know how to do a swap (based on his question), and I wouldn't downplay the skills needed either. For one thing, you sure as hell need more than one person to do the job. And by shop warranty, I'm talking about a shop guaranteeing their work and not charging the customer any extra for complications that could arise -- something that a fly by night grease monkey wouldn't give you.
I didn't know how until I did the first one either. A straight engine swap does not require a whole lot of skill. He won't be fabricating mounts, calculating driveline angles, etc. All the would be needed is familiarizing himself with the parts, marking connections, a ratchet, a torque wrench, a hoist, and
maybe a buddy..................
In a straight engine swap there aren't many complications and those that do come up wouldn't justify the labor cost of having someone else do it.
