Anyone know what the secondary round rail is next to the fuel rail? I've seen that on a few of BMW engines (or maybe not, I'm mostly eyeballing E46 M3s) and never bothered to look it up.
It's the bigger one that connects to each throttle body behind the butterfly. Common idle air tube (single idle valve for 6 throttles)? Coolant supply tube for throttle warming? EGR or secondary air feed rail for ITB? Vacuum rail?
Edit: pieced together enough images and searching for pictures of known parts, it's a common idle air tube to connect a single idle controller to ITBs. But there are are a few other barbs and hoses, no doubt it's the sole point of auxiliary entry and common vacuum in a ITB setup without an intake manifold, so it appears to blend EGR as well through the idle air system (does the S54 not manipulate VANOS for EGR?)
