How often do you see like a 1992 auto honda civic hatch back with boost gauges on the A-pillar or a cold air intake?

Why do people do this and try to make their automatics faster? If I drove an automatic car, I would not want to look like a poser in case anyone sees that I tried to mod an autotragic.

Why not just save your money and buy a manual right off the bat?
You get more power to the wheels and less weight to improve performance and handling.

what do you mean?
i just don't understand why people mod automatics when they could've had more performance from the factory and save $1k.

This argument only applies to crappy slushboxes like a '92 civic with only a CAI. But, if you want to apply this to well built cars with well built automatics.....then I'll have to disagree. Go to a drag strip and tell me what most of the fast cars are using?

How about cars with no manual option? Like my car? 2005 Pontiac GTP Comp G. You gonna argue that when there are some with a few mods in the high 12's low 13's? Pretty impressive for a 4 door sedan with a pushrod V6 and FWD.

My father wants to supercharge his Automatic 300C SRT8.
Are you saying he shouldn't because it's automatic?

Is it wrong for me to want more power, just because I have a DSG, dual clutch automatic?

Not the same thing really, you don't have a slushbox.

I see mods in general as being a waste of time and money, regardless of whether it's an automatic or a manual.

How so? From a computer standpoint most people would see a quad core, overclocking, outrageous video cards, etc as "waste."

Well I have no choice but to mod my automatic 87 Trans Am. As the manual gear box offered in those cars wasn't stout enough to handle the torque of the 5.7L SBC, thus you either had a 5.7L with an auto or a 5.0L with an auto or a 5-speed.

sure, but at the end of the day, you're dragging a FWD car and even worse, it's an automatic. there's no skill involved. just stomp on the gas and go.

Disagree again. Some skill is required to launch a FWD car with lots of torque, unless you want to sit at the start like a retard. There's plenty of fast FWD cars out there. Not modding one because it's FWD and auto is a pretty lame excuse.

My Maxima is wrong wheel drive and an automatic. Other than tinted windows and an upgraded stereo it is bone stock. :D

I have zero interest in modding it. It is basically just a conveyance. If I want to have fun I go ride my motorcycle.

Yep, pretty much.

I do have a decent video card... Radeon 4870. Overkill for most people. But it's not that crazy. It was $190 when I bought it and runs everything fine. What I don't understand are $500 SLI/Crossfire setups. Seems like those are made more for showing off benchmark scores than actual gaming. Unless the only game you ever play is Crysis on a 30" monitor.

I've overclocked before, pretty much a waste of time. I've never once noticed a difference in performance from OCing either my CPU or my GPU. Not worth spending a bunch of money on a cooling setup.

Case mods are just dumb. I can admire the skill and workmanship of well-done ones, but I don't see any reason to adorn my case with windows and blue LEDs. Same reason I don't cover my car in decals, aftermarket parts, and underglow neon.

For cars this would be the Dyno queens. 1200hp yet they can't keep up with anything that has a few hundred HP less.

This would carry over to the ricer crowd. lol.

Great. Another idiotic "you're not as cool as me" thread.

Which is dumber:
1. The person who's doing something he likes
2. The person whining about someone else doing something they like.

Let us know when you get past puberty. We can try having this conversation again.

sometimes people have the mods from prev cars, so it doesn't cost them a bit.

I normally do the bang for the buck mods and well if i have to replace something i might looking into aftermarket stuff as well. Like OEM plastic intake tube for the dealership runs like $50-200 and a simple CAI or short ram pipe/filter and etc from ebay is only $20-50. Both get the job done.

Now i've never seen a READ turbo kit on a auto 92 civic. I've seen interfoolers and plenty of gauges. I've seen people hook up nitrous kits to me. Honestly i would too if i had a wet kit say from my old car and i picked up a 93 auto civic beater for the winter. I'll spray just to see what it can do since its not a lot of money and i'm bored like that. Bought it as a 500-1000 beater if i blew it up doesn't hurt me much, if i dont and it makes it till spring i sell for same price again doesn't hurt me much.

Ride in a car with an auto that snaps your neck on every shift and get back to us. Also since you brought up turbos, autos are better for turbo cars because you can stall it up against the converter to load the engine and spool the turbo and leave the line with full boost.

Really OP? Like someone else mentioned, the auto cars are actually the faster ones at the dragstrip once you start putting some power to the ground. I've seen lots of cars that originally came with a manual transmission switch to an auto because the manual was too weak and was less consistent.

My personal opinion is that manuals are more fun to drive, but why on earth wouldn't you want to mod a car just because it has an auto?
