If you do go with blue nile or one of these online companies, remember that they typically have free next day shipping, that you don't have to pay tax, and that there are almost always 10% coupons floating around. Plus, many CC companies have 5% cashback as well.
yup I'm about to be called a cheap ass....I know but i'm tempted to get one with a nice setting and tell her then if she wants a real rock in it down the road i'll get her one, I just hate that diamonds are considerd so rare and expensive when there not.
Have you ever asked the GF her opinion of diamonds? My fiancee specifically didn't like diamonds; thought they were boring (not to mention DeBeers). I'm personally much more a fan of sapphires and rubies which can also be made synthetically and are much cheaper.
Moissanite looks just fine, but if she's at all status concious, she'll be constantly reminded of the fact that it's "fake". It's like eating a turkey burger: sure it tastes just fine, but you're thinking the whole time that you're not eating beef. At least if you go with pulled pork you're eating something totally different.
any good places to look at Sapphires and jazz online? i'm curious to look into that (mainly the white variety)
lol been looking in my spare time at work all day. damn my head is hurts....The places that have a setting I think looks sharp are ethier charging an ass load for that style setting, or they come preset with a Moissanite or other fake diamond...hmm I wounder what her reaction would be, and how I could breach the topic. she has been no help just has given me the line of whatever you want to get me i'll love..ugh lol, what I like the look of is a .75ct knife edge tiffany knock off, if real well lets just say I can't afford it.

IIRC, the engagement ring is considered the man's property until the actual wedding takes place in some states. I believe there was a lawsuit in Pennsylvania (IIRC) where a girl broke it off but tried to keep the ring and the guy sued her and won.
The television judge said Parker was responsible for paying Smith for half of the value of the ring.
No, that is why you do not propose to unscrupulous bitches who don't care about you at all and are merely trying to get paid at your expense. If you honestly felt like your fiancee is liable to fuck you over at any time, it doesn't matter if you propose to her with an onion ring, you're a fucking idiot and you deserve whatever happens. If you don't trust someone, maybe you shouldn't be trying to marry them. That is why you do not spend a lot of money on an engagement ring.
Not to dispute your post, but here is a link where a judge ruled the woman was responsible for 1/2 the cost of a missing $5,000 engagement ring.
The woman also went missing right after the court case.

You are not married, but you want to offer advice to someone who has been married twice?
lol, that is funny.
My first marriage lasted 14 years, second marriage has been 8 years so far.
Come back after you have been married for over 10 years, then talk about the value of an engagement ring. "Right now" the engagement ring "might" seem important, but after you are married for a decade or two, you start to realize what is important in life. No ring can compare to sharing your life with someone.
The engagement ring is nothing more then a phase in your life, like high school or college. Buy it, get it over with, then move onto the next phases of your life.
I see no use in putting a lot of thought into the topic, she will probably have the wedding ring and engagement ring made into a set later on anyway.
BTW, what happened to the engagement and wedding ring of your first wife? I assume you got to keep the wedding band but not the engagement band, right? No? Hmm... odd.
Another thing, when you get married, you want the ring to stand out where it can be easily seen by other men.
When your wife is around town doing some shopping, do you really want some single guy walking up to your wife and ask her out? Only for her to hold up her tiny wedding ring so the guy can see it?
Sounds good to me.
The relationship should not be based off of how much money I spend on her.
If she gauges the relationship on the amount of money spend on her rings, she needs to head on down the road.
Wouldn't the man lose 1/2 of the $5000 ring if they get divorced? At least in some states you get 100% of the ring back instead of 50%. Since you only seem to care about the pure financials of marriage I thought that might be of note to you.

Anyone deal with b2cjewels?
They seem to have better deals than even overstockand lower prices than everyone else.
I am thinking of upping the budget to $1K and getting something in the 1/2 carat range and returning the overstock ring.
Is this a good deal on a diamond:

My opinion,
Engagement ring = one weeks salary
Wedding ring = one months salary
Do you make $700 - $1,000 a week? If so, that should be fine for an engagement ring.
I dont care what style you look at, as long as it has a single diamond in it. I think multiple diamonds should be reserved for wedding rings.
