I wanted to elope to Cancun or Jamaica, wife said hell no :(

this will be what I'm goign to shoot for lmao. she wants a small intimate beach wedding, I want the same...but far enough away that I don't have to deal with the issue of not inviting my moms side of the family...I know I'm horrible...but they are more horrible

wow.

I did 3k on the ring, 18k on the wedding thanks for getting married on black friday(dont worry, it was a 4pm wedding with open bar, plenty of time to nap post BF shopping) which netted us 30% off the reception...

That is what people do not get....people pay you on your wedding. You know that nice box where you put envelopes in? Turns out it is customary to put at least $100 in your card...

I don't know many people that broke even, or remotely close to even on a wedding. And if you have a modest reception afterwards you can still collect the booty.

It's sad actually, several married couples I know didn't even "christen" their marrige that night because they were too exhausted from the full day of events, and non-stop running around talking to everyone at the reception.

Depends where you have it. we wanted a city wedding, but dam, it's $150 a head plus the cost of the hall. F that. So we moved to the burbs....it's $45 a head and the hall is free.

If everybody gives $100 at our wedding I think we might break even on ours next year. It was something like $40 per person after gratuity and taxes, so we could make $10 a head. Would be nice because we aren't even paying for half of it. It's a cheap $8k wedding though, everything is on the cheap except the open bar with decent liquor.

Men want to make women happy on the supposedly "most special day in their life", and we do not want to come up short. And, women tend to want the ring/bling to brags, and that big wedding that they read in harlequin romance, and advertisements that they are bombarded with.

That said. My oldest sister wedding cost $40K, and I think my sis got $22K of it back.

I think many women would consider a smaller ring and wedding if we give them the option of having a big ring and blow out wedding vs. having a house.

well I pulled the trigger on the ring, ended up taking crashtestdummy advice and went for something a little non traditional and went with a yellow saphire center. basically having this ring reproduce by a jeweler, original ring was well 3 times my budget since it used a mined 2ct Sapphire and a really marked up setting, I'm opting for a really nice Lab Sapphire, mounted in a slightly custimized setting, ended up costing me 1/4 of what the original ring would of cost, and I've seen pictures of the work this guy has done on simlar rings and he is very well regarded so think I did well.
