Thanks for the info.

Hmmm... If an entry-level Zacate nettop without optical drive is $500, I won't buy one. That's a pretty unimpressive entry point.

My belief/hope though is that it will be less. My target is is <$400 with Windows 7, 2 GB RAM, small hard drive, GigE and wireless 802.11n, dual video output including HDMI, and no optical drive.

As for performance, I'd say 1.6 GHz Core 2 Duo is sufficient for many in the general population. That's a HUGE boost over 1.6 GHz dual-core Atom. At 1.6 GHz C2D speeds, pretty much all basic stuff is fine IMO. That cannot be said for 1.6 GHz Atom speeds.

Hopefully they will be cheap. I mean, I got a laptop with a TF-20 1.6Ghz single-core, AMD HD3200 IGP, 2GB DDR2, 160GB HD, and a DL DVD-RW for $200 last year on BF.

Will Zacate be much better than that, enough better to command an increase in price?

I sure do hope this is true. There is not doubt that Zacate/Ontario is faster than ATOM(Out of order vs in order). Zacate is meant for the nettop and notebook segments, competing against Intels CULV line of processors, and Ontario for the netbook segment.

Its more like Zacate Vs Intel's CULV || Ontario Vs ATOM(I totally missed this point in my previous post)

It'll be way better at battery life, what with integrated (on CPU) graphics and 45nm. Presumably for cheaper than Intel's Pentium 1.3ghz dual core based on the Core 2 Duo arch. Unfortunately by the time this comes out, we'll have 32nm turbo-capable dual cores with HT from Intel with great battery life, too.

So, as usual, late to the game.
