I was reading on the Total War forums a link to the TW Center from someone inside of CA, saying that the demo is outdated, and there will be a patch for the demo on the 4th of march.

Though not a total realistic rendition of warfare during that era, I still think it is a lot of fun. I have put my pre-order in. And I can trust to mods to make a "Empire: Total Realism" which will rock :)

I hope so, and I really hope they improved load times. I really don't feel like spending $800 on a new system, especially since 'really' new stuff is right around the corner.

I really enjoyed the demo and plan on pre-ordering this weekend, hopefully they are still offering rome at that time.

The game is a little slower than Med 2 but I think that has more to do with how the battles realistically happened rather than CA screwing things up. Overall I felt the units fought and behaved in line with the revolutionary war and civil war research I have done and it was a blast to participate.

On a seperate note I would LOVE someone to redo rome ALA Med 2 total war... I LOVED Rome (stole my brothers copy many moons ago) and would love a graphical update to that. And thanks to some of the previous posters, I had no idea there were so many mods for these games, going to give Med 2 a new life.

Yes, Rome 2 would be great. Not sure they're going to make a sequel for their next Total War though, they're going to embark on some new historical enterprises, I think.

I hope they redo Rome or pre-medieval with this new engine. After skipping the tutorial and going straight into the first sea scenario, I tried ramming other ships to no avail. Damn you sir, I want to ram them ships!

Yeah I have to agree with you guys, a new Rome with this engine would be sick.

It's really beautiful and I come to appreciate it more everytime I play, especially the sea battles.

Naval battles with Rome with rams, greek fire, ship mounted ballistas - talk about awesome.

I've been replaying Rome a bit the past few days since Steam included it in the Empire pre-order. I would love a re-done Rome too. But I'd also be interested to see what other eras they could come up with to base a game on.

A Mongol one wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility I'm thinking but they may make a new Shogun instead. Hard to say. You can only redo a game so many times before it just gets repetitvely boring.

WW2, total war?

WW3, total war. That'd be sweet.

I'd be up for another Shogun, had the best music IMHO.

Edit - Of course I'd love to reenact the final battle in Ran, make it happen CA!

Hmmm WW2? Interesting. Thing is is that WW2 is way over done and I dont think CA would do a good job of it based on their past games and the theme involved. I could be proven wrong though.

The folks at twcenter figured out that unpacking the data1.pack file can cut load times by more than half. Pretty astounding difference.

I'd love to see an Asian themed TW game, not necessarily Shogun. China, Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia, etc.

WW2 is a bit played out for now.

Empire covers up until the early 1800s, right? I think there's enough differences in technology and tactics to do a mid-late-1800s into early 1900s game. Maybe up to WWI era? Though the differences between, say, the American Civil War and WWI are huge, I don't know if they could pull that off in one game.

Another option would be going back to ancient history, but go back further than Rome to pre- and early Classical time... Assyria, Babylon, pre-Ptolemaic Egypt, the Phoenicians, the Greek city-states, etc. Similar to a Rome 2, but slightly different.

I agree a Chinese game could be cool too.

WW2 was a bit played out a decade ago, didn't stop people from making a lot more WW2 games and a ton of money in the meantime :p

That would be really good and seems like a logical next step for the series.

No thx. The modders will take care of it. If TW does go into the Civil War Era (please noooo), it'll be a 19th Century themed Total War.

Yeah, I imagine it will either be an expansion to empire total war or a mod. Now in my previous experience in TW games.... I fell in love with CA and TW when Rome came out. Just such a unique and well executed idea which gave me a gamming experience I thought Id never get : Epic warfare and resource management on a turn based world map!

I played the demo and it did seem a bit sluggish. The controls seem more awkward than previous installments and the one thing I noticed instantly was that it was missing that double left click snap to point on map control. Where did it go? I miss it! The AI clunks together, and that is very disappointing considering that this era of warfare is all about holding a line formation.

I'm such a fanboi for creative assembly that even if the game sucks or gets sluggish I'd still love it. Anything short of crash to desk top bugs, and I'll likely pay 100 for it.

yes, i want a WW1 game. I can see it now, both sides in trenches all day long and when one side does come out to advance it'll be mowed down by machine gun fire in 10 seconds, fun, isn't it?

There was a Shogun: Total War, it would be nice to get a sequel. It would be interesting to see Japan transition from samurai to musketeers, it would make for a nice and varied game

You forget that turns in total war go from one season to the next, not day to day. So it is perfectly reasonable to make a WWI game that includes such stale mates.
