I'm of the firm opinion that the only reason the NBC producer said it shouldn't have been shown is because that's what he's paid to say. They're spinning it in the most positive light. You know, the one that makes these hypersensitive people feel self-righteous. Yeah, that light.

The fact that this skit failed some sort of arbitrary litmus test and should cause everyone involved to be fired, or whatever draconian response people will be crying for before too long, is ridiculous. If you honestly can't see that this was an unintentional coincidence, then what do you want?

yeah they are evil! they threw this skit together after they heard of the planecrash! them evil bastards! sheesh talk about over reaction

over reaction? you don't pull this kind of crap on the day of a major disaster. they could have edited it out. Even the program director said they should not have aired it.

but yet they even re-ran it on the west coast.

Major disaster? Katrina is a major disaster. 9-11 is a major disaster. A plane crash killing 49 people is rather "minor" in comparison (not to take away from the lives of those lost). Hell, even the news media got tired of the story after a day or so -- shows you how fickle we are over "major" news.

That being said, didn't a Russian airliner go down about a week ago killing almost 200 people? Where's the outcry!!!

Why did ABC pull the movie Twister after about 40 tornado deaths in the Midwest not long ago?

The funny part is, this little controversy has probably resulted in more people seeing the opening skit than normally would have.

B/C it's easier to replace a movie with a rerun than it is to replace a pre-taped portion of a scriped emmy show with dead air and awkwardness sp?

while they could have done such. why should they? people die every day. while a tragic accident there was no reason to pull the skit.

But you do NOT care because it didn't have an effect on YOU. If your bull was being gored you'd be bitching yourself, and you are a damn liar if you say otherwise. I've seen too many people on this forum try to play like they are above such petty crap, and then they go and complain about a local story in their newspaper, or that two lesbians kissed on TV.

This was a major disaster in the eyes of the aviation industry, and it ended almost five years of commercial flights without a major disaster. That's pretty big news to me and others, but since it didn't have an effect on your little corner of the world you don't give a sh!t.

Duh, it's totally insensitive, dummies. It's only been 5 years since 9/11, and 30 some years since munich. Obviously you can't make any skit or joke about anything to do with planes still. Only in the year 2097 will we be allowed to joke about the peanuts they serve on planes.

Bullsh!t. Don't tell me your are that dumb, Brandon. The Emmy's are a live show. They could have dropped the first 20-30 seconds of the skit, and not a damn person would have noticed.

It is a live show. They have contigency plans and filler if things get delayed. They also hurry it up if things run to slow. They can EASILY cut out 25-30 seconds of footage, and in fact they do it already during the live show.

Because they caved in to the PC people.

I think it's alright that they showed the skit, but kinda agree that they should have put a disclaimer in the beginning of the show. Then it'd be up to the people to watch or not. As for your twister episode, I'm sure the Twister movie being on TV was the last of any of their worries in the midwest.

Also, it's insensitive to have reruns of lost that show plane crashes on iTunes or any information about a plane crash on the lost web site. I also think that it is insensitive to have anything about walt getting kidnapped in light of the austrian girl who just escaped her captor. Man, Lost is totally insensitive. I'm going to go watch Survivor: Eugenics now.

It didn't effect 99.99999999% of the country either, so why the hell should the .0000001 affect the rest of the folks. Now 9/11 affected the whole nation as basically everyone in the country was involved. Sh1t, I'm afraid of clowns, does that mean that they should stop all circuses. Hell no, it means I don't go to the damn circus.

Of course it's live, but it's a show on rails. Everyone is reading off a teleprompter and the night has already be pre-programmed and planned. Cutting out the 25-30 seconds of the footage would have done nothing for the skit and would have made it worthless.

Bottom line, this emmy performance was planned to go a certain way way before the plane crash too place. Anyone in their right mind would know that the skit was a play on Lost and not on the plane crash. The flippin' audiene was LAUGHING b/c they GOT IT.

You must take it in context.

Fear of overreaction by hypersensitive whiners?

The idea that TV can't show any entertainment that in any way might remind viewers of unpleasant recent events is another sad example of the decline in personal responsibility. No one was planning to Clockwork Orange the tornado survivors into viewing Twister, so all they had to do was change the channel or leave the TV off.

I guess we should cancel Law and Order. That show LIVES off re-doing, re-enacting, getting inspiration from horrible sh!t that happens in real life.

So, how were people in Lexington supposed to avoid it? Did NBC list it in the program guide details?

Absolutely SUPERB logic there!

How did the twin tower attacks affect "basically everyone in the country" and yet the recent plane crash in Kentucky "didn't effect 99.99999999% of the country."

How did 9/11 have an effect on the whole country? Most people either felt guilty or scared. Yes, there were a ton that genuinely empathized, but let's be honest here.

ok so in the future when we have a live program they need to have someone watching the news. if they have a skit that may remind anyone of something that may have happened in the news they are to pull it! we can no risk hurting the feelings of someone somewhere!

pfft. it was a planned skit mocking a TV show. people need to get over it.

How can you be so stupid to think that relatives who just lost a family member in a crash and probably haven't even gone home yet are watching the emmies at 7pm?

I understand you people. Seeing Conan is all that matters. I truly feel a knot in my stomach everytime I see a plane crash on TV or in a movie. I couldn't even watch the First Final Destination. You can call me a PUSSY all you want, but let me kill your father in a plane crash, and then you go do a victory dance everytime you see one. You wouldn't. Walk a mile in someone else's shoes. I know what those families are feeling, and I know the hurt. You don't, so shut up.

Wow...9/11 was a terrorist attack on our soil. It would have been different if a main gas line blew and the towers fell by accident. We don't judge how large a catastrophe is by casualties alone. I knew NO ONE that died on 9/11 and I live in Alaska, but I remember that day like yesterday, and I remember being terrified.

I, for one, think it was insensitive for the pilot to crash that plane and he easily could have done it the day after the skit aired. He intended to ruin Conan's reputation by making him seem like an apathetic twit when, in reality, he does care.

It was the start of the whole terrorism deal. It captured most everyones emotion, unlike this plane crash. Before that probably half the country didn't know anything about terrorism. Alot of changes were thrown into place that now affect alot of people.
