why is something insensitive only when it affects a lot of people? this would not have been an issue if the commercial flight hadn't crashed, but there were still people out there grieveing from other plane crashes. So how many people must die for something to become taboo??

i think they are overreacting. yes the kentucky accident is tragic, but this obviously is poking fun at the fact that "LOST" did not get an emmy nod. it just happened to coincide on the day the plane crashed.

the skit was made days before the crash even happened.. its not like the crashed happened and NBC was like "hey lets do a plane crash!"... waaay too much overreaction..

This is all bullsh!t. I was watching MSNBC last night, and they were talking with a reporter that was there during the emmys and back stage. No one commented on it during the show and NONE of the reporters commented on it after the show.

It was only made light of after Matt Drudge started making some rumblings on his site.

How insensitive! Talking about the opening being "KILLED"??!?!?! Doesn't he know that 49 people were just killed!?!?

Yet NBC could have easily cut out the skit -- or at least warned the Lexington station about what was coming so they could cut it.

I'd be one of them. I can be completely honest. Although my father died in a plane crash, the skit would not have bothered me if the Lexington crash had not occurred. You don't know the pain and the feeling that you get from such a tragedy. To then have something like that air on NBC is too much. I'm not a PC person, but this is simple common sense. Were 9/11 jokes en vogue on 9/18? I think not. Yes, this plane had less deaths, but it still effected a lot of people -- namely anyone in the airline industry, or those who have been a part of plane crashes.

but yet they even re-ran it on the west coast.

it was not a major disaster. it was a sad thing that happened but no major disaster by any stretch of the imagination.

should they have pulled the skit? no. it was a planned event a LONG time before the plane went boom.

Major disaster? Katrina is a major disaster. 9-11 is a major disaster. A plane crash killing 49 people is rather "minor" in comparison (not to take away from the lives of those lost). Hell, even the news media got tired of the story after a day or so -- shows you how fickle we are over "major" news.

That being said, didn't a Russian airliner go down about a week ago killing almost 200 people? Where's the outcry!!!
