Seems the less talent it takes to make something, the more popular it is. It's all about intelligence. Difficult music takes a little bit more thinking to understand it. Most of the hip hop crowd don't have an ounce of sense so that archaic jungle jive caveman crap appeals to them.

There are some groups that have actual talent, be it SINGING (Wow, whatever happened to that art form), playing an instrument with precision that would make most mortals sick (say someone like Hendrix or Van Halen), or just an entire group creating a piece that is so deep on many different levels it takes years to fully comprehend.

Hip hop is poetry, poetry to someone's ripped off music. It might be decent poetry, but it's not music.

Most music probably went downhill after the mid 1800s when classical composers became fewer and fewer.

I woulnd't say hiphop is a fad either. Its here to stay, as it has been around a long time. What is also to be noted, however, is that hiphop must have one of the greatest turnover rates of any musical genre, IE. star one day, a no-name the next. Sure pop has it too, but hiphop seems to have it in a big way.
