Embarrassed by a Mustang. Time to mod my civic for some serious HP gain!!!

Nobody has mentioned the fact that the Mustang was still probably stock. The guy probably paid $16k new, and still will waste any civic on the street. I beat Civics all the time with my family car. I've got a 95 Olds Aurora, and I think I drive ricers to insanity. I know I've beat this one guy several times, and each time he has a new "mod" on his economy mobile. I love to torment rich high school kids.

is it worth it to pour $$$ to mod an automatic?

Ha this thread reminds me of the time I saw a FWD car w/ tiny donut tires on the front and big tires on the back. Cuz that's what makes the dragsters get good traction. Yup.

Lets not start bashing auto trannies here.

I love my mopar 998 (904 dirivitive). Shifts way faster than any manual. And a lot harder too.

I used to work with a guy that put a 5.0 in an escort. He forgot the sticker mod, though, so he lost that 10hp. 🙂

So I figure now it's time mod my Civic.
I'm thinking:
cold air intake (+15 hp)
warm air intake (+10 hp)
header (+20 hp)
high flow cat (+15 hp)
exhaust w/2.5" piping (+20 hp)
high stall torque converter (+20 hp)
Si cams (+25 hp)
stage I weight reduction - backseat, spare/jack, subs/amps (-100 lbs)

With a gain of +130 hp, I'll be running with 257 hp.
Not bad with basic bolt ons.

And to transfer that power to the ground, I'll need some tokico or koni struts, eibach/h&r springs, and 205/45/17 rim/tire combo for more traction.

This should be good enough to take out any Rustang GT/5.0, especially with my lower weight.
If needed, I'll throw in a 50 shot of NOS (+50 hp).

Other than the rims and tint, my car will be close to stock looking so don't start screaming rice.
It'll be a sleeper... no show, all go 😀

So wutcha guys think?

Lemme rephrase that.

cold air intake (+3 hp)
header (+10 hp)
high flow cat (3 hp)
exhaust w/2.5" piping (5 hp)
high stall torque converter (+5 hp)
Si cams (+10 hp)
stage I weight reduction - backseat, spare/jack, subs/amps (-100 lbs)

There ya go. That's more like the figures you'll be getting. With all the money spent on those parts, you'd be better off saving it for a turbo kit or an engine swap.

In the end when its all said and done you'll still be driving a CIVIC and it will still be FWD.

Just wait till I get my turbo kit for my 240 and you'll the advantage of RWD + LSD + lots of torque in the low end.

Um, maybe a V6 Mustang, and that would be a driver's race. The GT and Cobra would waste an Si, lest the GT was an automatic, then the GT would barely win.
Hey dtyn - how's the Supra going btw? Taken it to the track lately?

I took it to the track last weekend...managed a 12.32 @ 115 MPH. I'm having some serious traction issues. I start my internship @ a Mechanical contracting firm in February, so as soon as I get some money i'm going to redo the suspension, and hope for some 11's. I could get some drag radials, but it's my daily driver and they would wear too fast. Thanks for asking 🙂

Or better yet, just buy a real car if you want to race. Forget that Jap scrap crap. The only way they are fast is when they are dropped out of a C150 cargo plane.

word to your motha!

i do.

I was wondering myself how a torque converter could add horsepower. It may help you at launch, but that's about it. Again I ask why?

If you want to build a race car of any type, get something, anything with a small block Chevy. Then you can realize some horsepower gains with bolt on parts.

I still think this has got to be a joke. Then again, I had a friend in high school who thought his '76 Torino 4 door was a race car too. He even put the Starsky & Hutch stripe down the side to make it faster. Yes, this was the 70's. What a dork that guy was!

the driver has to be in the car bud 😉

<😀isclaimer: n/a rx7's are somewhat slow in today's sense... outhandle almost anything, but need engine work to be fast in today's standards>

Yes it was 1989. The mazda RX7 rotary engine car. They were jokes then. That was when I was big into street racing.

There were a bunch of us that would gather friday and saturday nights to hang out and race. Bench racing and adding up horsepower based on some Honda magazine advertisement, means squat. Real world racing seperates the men from the little boys. That's what counts. More often than not, your car was never as fast as you hoped it was.
