I think Elon is growing progressively more unhinged at the idea that he will never step foot on Mars, and that tons of his assertions and predictions will be proven woefully inaccurate.
I think he is suffering from what a lot of engineers (or people who work in engineering) do - they think their knowledge and expertise is a lot more generalizable than it really is.

Musk’s companies have solved some really impressive engineering problems but Twitter is not an engineering problem, it’s a human behavior problem. I have never gotten an impression from anything he’s done that indicates he is good at solving human behavior problems. Really, the opposite.

I mean basically if he unbans Trump, there is literally no reason to ban anybody. If you can literally try to overthrow the US government from a position of power, with violence, and penetrate the peaceful transfer of democracy and that's cool, well, that's pretty fucked.

Definitely the opposite. Someone who has shown they are a hypocrite opportunist and a troll and seem to lack basic human empathy skills is not going to solve human behavior problems - in fact, they'll only make it worse

This will be an interesting exercise in "free speech".
Either Twitter turns into a shit show, or moderation is kept in place, in which case, the new boss is same as the old boss.

I'll bet that Twitter's engagement numbers will go back up after Elon lets Trump back on the platform. Everyone's favorite villain will be back to hate reply to!

I don’t use Twitter and other than people posting tweets, I don’t interact with it at all.

How will this impact me?

A bigger megaphone for the GQP increases odds of GQP Presidency, House and Senate.

That's how it impacts everyone.

While in reality you are correct, the truth is that it’s a megaphone if we allow it to be one. I’m not concerned with a bunch of trolls and bubble dwellers circle jerking, what concerns me is when the media repeats and amplifies it. Without the media, trumps tweets would have just been farts in the wind or more shit for the sewer.

You are correct but you know every news outlet is going to have front page articles about every tweet Trump makes, even if it is just covfefe. Musk buying Twitter is bad for the United States and bad for democracy.

Really? Besides Trump in the oval 2024?
Seriously, Elon may turn it into a Truth or Parler clone. We cant know right now.
But one thing is a for sure, its another billionaire inserting himself in the public discourse cause he wants to shape the conversation. Rupert comes to mind.

Agreed, but it's not just Trump, but also the 70,000 banned QANON accounts and all the rest, so there will be more "engagement" as people try to counter the ramp up in misinformation.

Musk can cut staffing, while driving engagement like this and boost numbers and earnings, along with helping elect the GQP for 2024, then IPO after election bump, and make bank... Probably sell just enough stock to make all his money back, while keeping a controlling interest. Then turn over management to one of the Trump family when he gets bored.

'turn into a shit show'??! I usually can't read more than a few posts down on 80% of the threads I follow before some *sshat starts babbling about some BS vaguely related to the thread in question. Then the thread goes to hell. Heck, even on thread from people I follow for coverage of the conflict in Ukraine, wind up with some Russian parrot tossing out nonesense in relatively short order. Technical threads are typically better.

Shouldn't this thread be moved to twitter? ;)

It's all in THE GRAND SCHEME.... THE GRAND SCHEME.... for THE RETURN of Donald Trump. After all, how can Trump run in 2024 without twitter? How can Trump win in 2024 without twitter to lie, cheat, scam, rant, and instigate insurrections?
HOW can Trump possibly do it without full cooperation from twitter?

Hmmmm. And what stake does Elon Musk have in all of this Donald Trump becoming president in 2024 thing? What's in it for him, Mr Elon? What agreement(s) have been formulated between Trump and Musk for Musk to purchase twitter so that Trump can regain his social media powers?

And what about Elon Musk himself?
Is he even an American? Might Elon be just one of so many Trump collaborating Russian operatives?
And what's up with that name, Elon Musk?
Sure sounds Rooskie to me.

It seems like Elon has turned himself into Rick Twitler from the Nickelodeon show Henry Danger. I shall refer to him as such henceforth.
