Option for never hearing of either of them?

I think you have to be over 30 to know these bands. :(

You know, the musical world consists of more than just rap and Lady GaGa...

:music:
You got me running going out of my mind
You got me thinking me that I'm wasting my time
Don't bring me down
No, no, no, no, no, ooh ooh

Jeff Lynne has a good voice.

The 1st time I heard him sing Roy Orbison's part on a Traveling Wilburys song, from The Concert for George (Harrison, a tribute concert after he died) DVD, I got goosebumps.

I fell for one of those "50 free songs" from e-music, and ELP was a lifesaver. They had most of the good stuff on there and I grabbed it all!

Picked at random - just searched for ELP and chose a few that had the most views from an ELP playlist:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...CE9A969D6E1700&index=5 (This was more of a solo performance by Greg Lake; if you search, you can find a version with the entire band; one of their best/most popular songs.)

Ditto for ELO - (and excluding Xanadu which was more Olivia Newton-John)

I think overall, ELO had more hits & was more popular (more poppy), but ELP had much more talent.

I was surprised. I thought ELP would "win" this poll, given their obvious virtuosity. ELO does have some catchy tunes.
Not really surprising at all. ELO's shorter, catchy songs are much more radio-friendly than ELP's longer, more complex works, and much more likely to be familiar to anyone who missed the era of "free-form" FM.

True, but it seems that many folks who hold on to the older music do so more out of their appreciation for the impressiveness of the music, whereas a lot of people who are into "pop" tend to move on to other bands.

They refer to themselves as ELP. ;)

But yeah, we usually didn't refer to them that way. I just liked ELO, ELP. :p
