Jeff Lynne has a good voice.

The 1st time I heard him sing Roy Orbison's part on a Traveling Wilburys song, from The Concert for George (Harrison, a tribute concert after he died) DVD, I got goosebumps.
 
I fell for one of those "50 free songs" from e-music, and ELP was a lifesaver. They had most of the good stuff on there and I grabbed it all!😎

I think overall, ELO had more hits & was more popular (more poppy), but ELP had much more talent.

I was surprised. I thought ELP would "win" this poll, given their obvious virtuosity. ELO does have some catchy tunes.

Not really surprising at all. ELO's shorter, catchy songs are much more radio-friendly than ELP's longer, more complex works, and much more likely to be familiar to anyone who missed the era of "free-form" FM.

True, but it seems that many folks who hold on to the older music do so more out of their appreciation for the impressiveness of the music, whereas a lot of people who are into "pop" tend to move on to other bands.
