so children should be taken away if parents do anything illegal?

is that what you're getting at?

So if anal sex was illegal in CA and I started boning my wife in the ass, my kids should be taken away cuz I was performing an illegal activity?

(not that I would do that in front of my kids!)
read your last sentence. not that i would do that in front of my kids.
that's what i've maintained. the parents were smoking pot in front of their kids. their big mistake. you wouldn't do that in front of your kids, would you? no.

shit isn't together when you smoke pot around your kids.
case closed.

Are you serious, Mosh? Take a step back, please. You are way off base here.

Do you believe that "shit isn't together" when you drink alcohol around your kids? Please tell me you do.

If you do not, then you simply have no idea what you're talking about and are blowing smoke..

no pun intended. 😛

The law said it's illegal to possess marijuana. The kid reported the crime. What's wrong with that?
If you don't like the law, go change it.
Prop 19 in CA is the first step. Go Vote Yes.

1. Where do you get that? Parents could be smoking at night in their bedroom
2. I wouldn't, no.

Eli, i am no puritan here, but i will tell you i would never smoke pot around a kid like that if i were his parent or as an adult any way.

why is this ok with you people? did your parents smoke around you?

you are saying it's fine to smoke pot in front of your kids? if it's not bad, like you say i've said, then you think it's ok?

Reply to my friggin' posts! Thank you. 😛

It depends on your principles. If it's okay to drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes around your children, then it is most certainly okay to smoke marijuana around them.

Why wouldn't it be? What is the difference? There is none.

it's because if the parent was smoking a cigarette nothing would happen

but all of a sudden it's a joint and the kids are being taken away

why?

IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE; it's an inconsistent policy.

1. it couldn't have been done that secretively if the kid knew about it.
2. you wouldn't, just as these parents shouldn't have.

they got themselves in the trouble they are in.

In a well ventilated area, like outside, sure. What harm is going to come to the kids, a giggling parent?
outside... sure. the neighbor reports them. the cops show up at the house and bust the parents. what harm is going to come to the kids from that? :|

I'd like to think my kids are smart enough to know that legal != moral. I don't have a problem breaking unjust laws, and I encourage everyone to. Respect is only given when it's earned. If you're going to disrespect me by taking my liberty, I'm going to disrespect you by ignoring your laws. As I said somewhere else, blindly following rule books are for retards and criminals....

I am pretty anti-drugs as anyone. this? is fucking insane. i don't hold the kid responsible i hold the DARE officer that talked the kids into turning in the family.

Pot should be legal. it is far less destructive then any alcohol. Its finally getting to the point any person with a shred of common sense can see it.

... said Matthews Officer Stason Tyrrell. That's what they're told to do, to make us aware."
...
Police say both the 11-year old and a sibling have been removed from the parents' house by social services. Police say they are staying with relatives.

When Russia took control of Poland, the Russian authorities went to the schools and taught the innocent children to turn in their parents, basically looking for those in the underground resistance movement.

This is a very, very bad and dangerous situation we have here where a police officer is telling innocent children to turn in their own family.

Turning children against their own family will only result in furthering distrust for a whole generation and eventual overthrow of the government.

A proper result to this situation would be for the drugs to be confiscated, the child to be thanked and maybe rewarded in some manner like a gold star, but then for the situation to go no further. To investigate a family from a child's admission of evidence is very wrong to the people of this country and unfair to that child's peace of mind.

EDIT:
As it is, that police department should be severely reprimanded by the community.

already answered that Eli. like it or not, pot is illegal. you can get arrested for smoking pot. having a beer in your home will not yield the same results legally as smoking pot. that is the difference. if pot were legal, and i don't see why it isn't, then this whole thread would be a non issue i suppose.

basically - everyone, follow these laws that don't make sense OR ELSE

Weee... Around and around we go! It's bad because it's illegal, and illegal because it's bad!

You can come up with better arguments than that. If you cannot, perhaps you should reevaluate your stance...

There is no difference between smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol around your children. There IS a difference between smoking marijuana or drinking alcohol and shooting up heroin around your children.

Can you determine why there is a difference? Hint: It isn't because it's illegal.......

i didn't make the frickin law. you need to pay better attention to my responses if you are going to ride my ass about them.

yes. one can get your parent arrested. which is just what every kid yearns for. 😡

You never snooped around your parents' stuff?

It was rare that I was actually surprised come Christmas - at least, after I reached a certain age... my curiosity got the best of me.

Sometimes, you find things you really wish you never found. 😱

If he found something that looked like something he was told was the devil of all inanimate matter by the DARE folks, then he would then recognize it and then decide "my parents have this evil stuff?! OMG, I have to get help!"

so basically this is where we're at

You blame parents for not following absurd drug laws
We blame drug laws for being absurd

okay, I'm done with this thread for now. :\

pot is no worse than alcohol, and we shouldn't hold these parents accountable for the legality of it because of that.

i am done too. going to go watch the yankees hopefully beat the rangers.
