Is it just me, or is MAGIC extremely weak in this game? Youd figure with a title or Elemental: War of MAGIC, magic would be useful, but a squad of longbowmen or guys with broadswords can completely clean the map.

I find it to be the other way around with my sov casting a few 'elemental' creatures I've always been able to clean the AIs clock. Raise/lower land is also fun to play with and is a game changer.

playing through pre-1.1 it was all Magic, and only magic. My sov army would just run through and clean house with some token wolf riders or what not, who never did anything, as the opposing armies were mowed down long before they could advance into attack range, haha.

i don't have much experience with the current version, though. the universal mana pool should definitely change that tactic, as it was way way overpowered. you barely had to make any soldiers, as all you needed was two magic casters to summon several armies of elementals--which had no upkeep and were more or less immortal--that could run through and tear up most any army.

Interesting, in 1.19b elementals need mana upkeep so I dont cast too many of them. And casting a few spells pretty quickly drops your mana pool, especially the higher level spells.
On the other hand giving a peasant a Claymore and he can cleave through anything in one shot.

Yeah, I found that you end up using the magic in important fights where you might otherwise lose. Otherwise, I avoid using it. Even so, I find that Magic is very powerful, and you can beat an army 3 times your size if you use the more powerful spells. The problem is that you can't use that magic very often, as it takes a long time to build up that mana again.
