Electronic Arts Invests Acquires Approximately 19.9 Percent Equity in UbiSoft Entertainment

They better not fvck the upcoming Band of Brothers for xbox and replace it with more of their medal of honor crap.

Who cares on this though. Ubisoft will still be developing the games like splinter cell etc. EA will just slap its name on it like they did with burnout 3. This isnt as bad as buying exclusive rights to NFL GAMES

well thanks to EA the burnout 3 xbox live server is complete crap. not to mention you see ads for every friggin EA game within the game, and the stupid EA trax stuff is ridiculous.

hopefully they won't screw splinter cell up by making you login to xbox live servers then have it transfer you to EA servers (as it does with burnout 3), making it take about 10 tries before you find a game you can actuall connect to people in.

I read this this morning. EA is a monster. It seems that Ubi's execs do not really like the deal either but they have little power.

EA will be bigger than MS pretty soon for as much software as they put out. The deal with Dice didn't work out but EA is giving them another chance. No one says no to EA.

I'm still fuming at EA for that piece of trash they released on the PC called NHL 2005. What an unfinished pile of dung.

ESPN NHL 2005 is really great. I think iit is only on consoles though.

They only hold 20% equity. I don't think this automatically entails that the EA brand will be stamped on all Ubi products from here on out. However, there has to be a long-term plan with aquiring the 20%. What do they have planned?

EA grinds babies up to make their games :/

My friend works for them ... and crunch time for Golden Eye2, was 16+ hour work days, 7 days a week x_x people were eating, breating, sleeping EA. (And some slept @ EA!) During GE2, the only time I was able to see him, was to drive over an hour to see him at his office for about a few minutes and then leave :/

Electronic Arts said earlier on Monday it was buying about 19.9 percent of the French video game maker, fuelling speculation it might bid for the whole company

No time for nookie??? DAMN EA!!!!!:|:|

EA murdered the C&C series and they dare churn out another cookie cutter red alert?

to think GDI couldn't kill Kane but only EA executives could

Actually it looks like they are going to force themselves on DICE after all. EA just changed the wording of the deal because they wouldn't have enough shares within the company to get a 90% vote. They didn't realize that there were enough unexercised options held by employees who would vote against the take-over, so they changed conditions to 50% of the capital votes.

I don't see how EA can effectively pillage DICE however, after another game or two when the mandatory assimilation/absorbtion period commences(when DICE stops being DICE and becomes EA Sweden) are they gonna offer to fly everyone in from Sweden? They will probably just tell them "You have jobs in Cali if you want to fly out, see you soon."

Yep! 😀 And the great thing is that they're not going to have any more GE's ... unfortunately they're not going to stop the abuse of their employees :/

And I'm sure you guys have all read EA_Spouse ... so I'm not going to bother linking 😛

Not to support EA's employee treatment practices at all, but why don't developers such as your bf look elsewhere.

In related news, EA just announced that all UbiSoft games scheduled for completion from 2005 through 2006 have been declared "gold" and will ship as-is by Christmas! No patches will be forthcoming, as the game devs are all being laid off immediately.

[/sarcasm]

EA pisses me off, if they mess up Silent Hunter 3, there will be NO FORGIVENESS!!!!

Have YOU tried looking for a job in the game dev industry?

Hell, I STILL can't find one, and I'd be HAPPY to work those hours!

It's just such a very, VERY small employement source, it's nearly impossible to get in at ALL. With ANY company.

What dderidex said ... and he's trying to break into the industry, so it wouldn't look very good to leave a company after say ... 6 months. It looks VERY good that he's working for such a prestigious company as well...
