Huh?

Damn I get tired of fscking whiners that love telling people what they do or do not need. You must be a politician, Kosugi. You know what's best for everyone.

Just wait until the tree huggers romp around town in one of these claiming they are oh so righteous for driving an electric car...until they realize the coal-fired power plant in the burbs chugging away at 125% of its capacity Seriously, I wonder if the electric power grid could accomodate the same number of electric cars as the oil industry accomodates with conventional cars.

So get a hybrid. They do not need to be plugged in. Besides, if we can get a hydrogen engine off of the ground in the next 20 years, gas engines will go the way of the dinosaur.

Do you think having a car that goes 180 makes you smarter?

No it makes me go faster.

Do you think having a car that goes 180 makes you sexier?

No it makes me go faster.

Do you think having a car that goes 180 makes you mr. popular?

No it makes me go faster.

I like faster! ;)

<<The efficiency of the electric engine is far higher than the combustion engine (close to 99%, as opposed to something like 35% for the combustion enging).>>

And the efficiency of the coal fired power plant that generates the electricity is probably 20% on a good day, so you still come out behind with the electric. Electric cars will never be vaible unless batteries as we know them today are eliminated. Gasoline cars will be around for a long time (at least until gas become prohibitively expensive). I do see cars with electric motors and hydrogen fuel cells to generate the electricity catching on if gas does become scarce. I will never own a battery operated car, but a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle has the potential to be every bit as viable as a gasoline car.

Well, it depends. The Ferraris and Vipers and Porsches are among the most inefficient cars in existence. The efficiency rating for gas that people talk about comes from compact cars. The other issue is source of the electricity. Coal is not the only one. But your point is a good one to make.
