Sooner or later, with mobs that size, violence will come about.

Gov't looks to try and hold on by any means necessary.

The idea that pro-Mubarak guys spontaneously formed after his speech is preposterous. They look more like provocateurs.

Clashes starting in Tahrir after invasion by pro-Mubarak force. Some protesters injured lightly, 2 camera crews assaulted.

Very messy in Tahrir right now. Clashes. Could be a bad day. Looks like Mubarak says: you challenge me, you pay a price.

Mubarak seems to be trying to stage a crackdown not with police or army, but with thugs. They are armed and brutal.

In my part of Tahrir, pro-#Mubarak mobs arrived in buses, armed with machetes, straight-razors and clubs, very menacing.

I saw some people who were motionless and seemed badly injured. Hard to know casualties, but they're adding up. http://twitter.com/NickKristof/status/32813686645071872

Pro-Mubarak thugs everywhere have same talking points, same signs, same hostility to journalists. An organized crackdown.

This is a clear and brutal siege on what had been a peaceful protest. Sirens in the background, helicopters overhead.

Stop trolling... We know you're a Zionist.

Yep, nothing to do with Islam versus Christianity versus Atheism. It's about people who want to be free. Last time I heard, you can't be a full citizen in Israel unless you are "really Jewish".

It is important to note that it's a standard tactic to use government operatives to bring about a desired result against protests - including turning them violent.

And yes, it's been used many times in the US.

It can be for a variety of reasons, whether to simply discredit or disrupt the demonstrations without the government being seen to do it, to creating the justification for the government to use violence to 'restore law and order in response to the mob violence'.

There are undercover police in these Egypt protests - including several who have been arrested for looting.

I just turned on Jazeera and they are reporting heavy shooting in the square and you can hear gun fire in the background.

http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/

It's a disgrace that the US censors the best network for Middle East News.

The censorship may not be official by the government, but they're not on cable.

I may put up some links later to stories reporting how Al Jazeera has been doing far, far, better than any of the US channels covering these issues.

Please. All Mubarak has to do is cut the lights, put on night vision and make them disappear by morning if he wanted to. Everything is not a conspiracy only half.:p

CNN's Anderson Cooper crew was attacked, and now CBC cameraman beaten by mob.

Suez Canal is starting to have a back log of ships & trucks due to lack of workers. And, oil companies are starting to pull some of their people out.

It sounds like the situation in Egypt is getting hotter.
