<< However, how would you like to get hundreds, perhaps thousands, of emails in your box from people looking for charity? >>

Maybe next time they will at least e-mail me and let me know what's going on. Did anyone else receive an e-mail about the cancellation?

Not to me they didn't. My order is still active too. Hmm, perhaps it's about time I contact them.

So what exactly do you have to do to get $50 out of them? Threaten to take it to the press? That probably did it. :p

As for when a deal is final, it is not final until the charge you and ship. Once they ship the item they cannot refund you your money and demand their item back. Buy.com found this out very quickly, by asking for the item's return or authorization of credit, and then very quietly letting the matter drop when nobody did either. :)

Those of us who have been around a while know it isn't out of the ordinary for Egghead to offer GCs for pricing blunders.

Anyone recall?......

Tuesday June 1, 1999 3:15 pm PDT from MARC ALEJANDRO
Thank you for your purchase of a graphics Winner II card from our "at cost" site. Unfortunately, as a result of a technical problem, the product price was advertised in error.

As a result, we have cancelled your order in our system and are in the process of refunding your credit card.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience we have caused you. Due to this error, we are offering you an in-store credit of up to $100.00 on your next Onsale billed order.

To redeem this order, simply update this service request with your new order number and we will process the refund.

Thank you for your support and cooperation in this matter. Tuesday June 1, 1999 3:15 pm PDT from MARC ALEJANDRO

Or how about?......

heck someone said they got a $20 gift cert. from egghead on a mispriced mobo. if that is possible so is this although it doesn't seem likely we will see the $50, it only took about 20 seconds to send off an email that may just be worth $50. I got my $50 from ubid when the screwed up so this isn't totally out of the realm of possibilities (although they've screwed up plenty of times and have only reimbursed me but once). Funny how when I screw up and accidently bid too high I still have to end up paying for it but when the bids are low they never fulfill their end. oh well we probably don't deserve the $50 anyways but the mistakes and consequences should go both ways. :)

First of all, excuse my English I am a foreigner.
I believe that the Egghead is obliged to deliver the memory to you guys. (BTW I didn't order the item.) Here is the reasoning.
In almost all the countries, some errors in advisement are tolerated. This is mainly because most advisements are printed by a third party company. When the advisement contains some errors, the company has to publicly announce the error. This seems not to be the case in corporate America. In any case, no country would tolerate contractual errors except the error was obvious to any sane body.
The order confirmation letter or charge to your credit card account is not an advertisement, but a contact. (I am not sure what constitutes in corporate America, but in my country they constitutes contract.)
The only issue remaining is whether the deal was an obvious error.
I think that the memory was an on-sale item. They may sell the item at any price or even free. (You know so many free items all over the net.) The the deal can not be an obvious error.
Good Luck Guys.
---Make some simple mistakes in your address line when you are ordering. Call them two hours later. They would not change the shipping address and you have to pay all the shipping cost to get the item to the right place. They don't need to change the shipping address even though you made an obvious mistakes. Since this is contact and how do they know you did not ordered the item as a gift.-----
How do you know they did not want to give away the item!!!!

To tgillitzr and the rest of the people who think they should be honored the listed price of the RAM, and/or given credit for your "inconvenience":

Just can it already. You had a (very slim) chance of getting an item at a price that's unheard of. You didn't get it. Sure, your credit card got charged, but it also got refunded. Plus, Egghead's policies clearly state they have a right to cancel your order in the case of OBVIOUS mistakes such as this one. Your loss: a few minutes of your time (which you have escalated into many hours by whining and bitching about it on this forum). Don't try to cash in and cry foul when they correct themselves. IT'S OVER. SHUT UP. You're getting NOTHING. Which is what SHOULD happen. Everyone makes mistakes, and no, it's not their obligation to suffer a simple typo.

Request to the mods: Move this waste of time over to the Off Topic section to make room for posts about hot deals. This definitely is NOT one.

Valkore.. your simply wrong. Thats all there is to it.

Its more the way they are handling this, not that I want "something for nothing". They have decided that we are stupid. I know I'm not stupid... (you may or may not believe that)and do not take to kindly to being insulted by a publically traded company.

You can flame all you want... simple fact is that they are bound to the contract. There is no way around it. If your not going to argue the points... then leave

My only question is... DID anyone actually get the memory they ordered? I'm pretty sure that there were orders that must have made it to customers' doors... OTHERWISE, I think we should let this EAK-head.com incident go... f* them... Good luck to those who emailed for the Gift Certificates. :D

WARNING STEAM EXPULSION TO OCCUR
BEGIN VENT:
Egghead is SUCK they charge your credit card and take three weeks to credit your account after you cancel the order after waiting for two months on an In Stock item.

I think they should make some amends or atleast change their crappy policy of charging your credit card practically before you hit the submit button.
ALL CLEAR! RESUME NORMAL OPERATION
