I won't take credit for this cause I saw the thread here:

E-mail Egghead for GC

Not sure whether it is true or not, but I figure it is worth a try

For those of you that are too lazy to click:

"I Personally Contacted Jeff Sheahan, the CEO of Egghead Corporation last week. Today his Assistant contacted me, and after a long conversation regarding the memory pricing issue he has agreed to send a $50.00 Gift Certificate to myself and all persons who's order was canceled. He has asked that you contact him via e-mail with your; Name, Order Number and E-mail Address, SUBJECT: Memory Pricing Issue - Gift Certificate.

Contact:
Norman Hulling
nhulling@egghead.com

"

I am told it was from HardOCP

I'm NOT trying to flame anyone here, but this sounds endlessly fishy. Egghead had every legal justification for cancelling our orders. I find it hard to believe they're so eager to pony up $50 to what must be a TON of people.

Agree MontyBurns

$50 GC for, says, two thousands people equals to wohhh $100,000.
I still can't believe they want to shed out 100 Gs' to cover up their face and reputation on 1,000 Gs'

No one cares to try, I don't think so.

is it for every order or every stick of ram ordered? I ordered two sticks so would I be lucky enough to get a brand new B. Franklin c note from them. I doubt they're even giving $50 but we'll see. oh well if they do yippee if not no harm no foul.

I am betting that this was posted because someone is pissed at this guy. His inbox will be spammed into oblivion if all the "hot deal seekers" send him this e-mail. I'm sending mine right after I hit "reply." :)

No offense, but this is pure bullsh*t. If you're that desperate for $50 that you're willing to believe this, you might as well be stealing contribution boxes they have at 7/11 counters. Seriously folks, Anandtech isn't a community of morons.

He has asked that you contact him via e-mail with your; Name, Order Number and E-mail Address, SUBJECT: Memory Pricing Issue - Gift Certificate

Give me a break.

I bet you this is fake, and that someone is just pissed and wants us to flood egghead's e-mails with these requests, like a petition almost for $50 certificates. Ah who the heck cares, I was pretty mad with the canceled ram deals, so I'll send my e-mail anyway. Worst comes to worst we get Nothing Again.

...and by the way, looks like whoever conjured up this letter needs a grammar lesson as well. First person who finds the error wins.

<< who's order >>

Obviously that should read

<< whose order >>

. Who's is a contraction meaning "who is"; Whose is the proper possessive for this particular case.

Now, what do I win? :D

fdiskboy, you win a big sticker that reads non-moron. I ask that you contact me via e-mail with your; Name, Order Number and E-mail Address, SUBJECT: Memory Pricing Issue - Non Moron Award.

(upon reading the above, that semicolon is improperly used as well) jeez.

HotDealFinder.com: I agree that this sounds pretty fishy, but what possible harm is there in trying? I don't see the point in picking apart the letter... It wasn't from the CEO of Egghead, it was from the guy who contacted Egghead, so why shoud he have any better grammar/punctuation than any of us? I would bet this doesn't pan out, but I would hate to miss out on it if it did! :D

daid, I suppose there is no harm in trying. However, how would you like to get hundreds, perhaps thousands, of emails in your box from people looking for charity?

hehehe... That would suck, but then again it wasn't MY error. I know... it was an error, move on. I, sadly, kept up with this whole debate in the OT forum. I see both sides, and I really do not complain about things. I DO however hold that just because a company is "on-line", they souldn't be treated any differently than a B&M store. These are the "risks" of running and on-line business. Is it worth it? Ask Amazon... then again, ask Value America. :D I don't want to debate, just my .02. :)

Yeah, the e-mail won't hurt, but it won't help either.

Just check out the frontpage post by Kyle on HardOCP.com concerning the Egghead RAM mispricing.

Dear Mr. Bennett:

Thank you for taking my call this afternoon, and for pulling down the previous posting about Egghead.com from your web site.

As you and your readers may have guessed, as a result of typographical errors, Egghead mistakenly posted products for sale with incorrect prices. Egghead realized its mistake soon after many customers had placed orders for the products, and began canceling these orders in accordance with the Terms and Conditions that govern transactions on Egghead.com. Frankly, most of the customers who placed orders for the mispriced memory product probably knew there was an error when a $335.00 product was offered for $34.85.

As I am sure you and your many readers are aware, mistakes occur in the e-commerce world, and when they do, unfortunately, many more people are exposed to those mistakes as compared to the bricks and mortar world. As I am sure you and your readers are also aware, contractual terms and conditions, like those posted on Egghead.com's site at http://www.egghead.com/helpinfo/aboutus/terms.htm, are critical for the operation of e-commerce that results in great savings to customers, like your readers.

When mistakes do occur, Egghead makes case-by-case customer service decisions, and occasionally grants accommodations. One customer complained and requested an accommodation for himself and others in a "small" user group for whom he was representing. Because Egghead provides customer service accommodations on a case-by-case basis, it was able to provide this customer and his colleagues with a $50 dollar gift certificate.

However, Egghead has not made a uniform decision granting a $50 gift certificate for any additional customers that complain about this accidental mispost.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our customers, but do believe that most will understand that mistakes do occur.

Thank you again for your time this afternoon.

Rodger Cole

Nah, I just like saying that.

:)

Actually, if you remember back to the hub/switch incident, they claimed a discontinued item even though this was clearly not the case. In fact, in small claims courts they lost several cases on the basis of their deception. So yes, it is right to place a disclaimer stating that they are obliged to fulfill mispricings, however, it does not give them the right to mislead the customer otherwise by lying about the status of the products that they carry.

So they are suck. This is a fact.

subpar

Edit: BTW, they also suck because they should treat all customers the same...and not extend certain privileges to some people and not others.

Ok... they may have made a mistake... who's problem is that?

Mine? No.

Theirs? Yes.

Its not MY fault they charged my credit card immediatly... thats theirs. When they did that... regardless of price of the product.. they completed the deal. DONE. FINISHED.

Their disclaimer says they don't have to honor a typo... this is true until they take your money.
