Are there any hair gels for men with effective holding power that don't leave your hair shinny? Basically, I'm looking for the hold without it looking like I have any hair gel on.

I searched for years and finally found American Crew's forming creme. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE it. Give it a shot. smells good too

trust me, the paul mitchell tea tree shaping cream is way better.

i'm no stranger to hair products... some of the other ones i had were thrown away because i just wouldn't use anymore (bed head, axe molding cream sample, redkin "maneuver" molding wax, a couple pomades, and a couple others i don't remember)

- tea tree shaping cream
- hair saloon for men forming cream
- american crew matte
- american crew forming cream
- american crew fiber

(unintentionally, that's in order of best to worst)

haha yeah, I think I have 6 products right now in my medicine cabinet. I have incredibly thick hair and once it gets past about an inch and a half the american crew stuff doesn't work on it anymore, so I end up going with a styling glue, which does leave a faint shine, but I can get some crazy spikes going. Ladies love the spikes :awe:

paul mitchell hair glue? i used to use that all the time back in undergrad... then i couldn't find it anymore. i guess it came back out on the market or something. i saw a few bottles of it at my stylist's. it was in an elmer's glue-looking bottle, just like it used to be, except with a different label...

Conditioner.
After shower drop in a little dab and it holds hair nicely. If it seems crunchy, play with it a bit.

Wow, I think I'm paying way too much for forming paste, the american crew stuff is dirt cheap. I think I'm gonna give it a shot, paying $13 for 3oz. redken power paste sucks. It's the only stuff that has worked for me so far though, my hair is really thick and straight.

Does American Crew hold all day, or does it get frizzy after a few hours?

Not by Paul Mitchell actually, I can't think of the brand off the top of my head...got 2 be glued or something like that....it's an off-brand but works surprisingly well

How long does that usually last you, and do you use it daily? After a few years of shaving my head (which I love, actually, both for the look and maintenance), I've decided to grow out my hair again for giggles. Who knows if it'll last, but I need to figure out what to do with it when it's back. I've got pretty thick curly/wavy hair and I need some sort of product to manage it.

i use it daily. it lasts all day long. as long as longevity of the product daily usage, i'd say it's probably a good 7 months or so before you'd need to buy more.

Ah, that's a lot longer than I had anticipated. Good stuff.
