At 1/8 the brain power you're going to need all of those extra bodies. 😀

The public school system in the US is an absolute joke /end thread

There was nothing wrong with it when I went through it.

nor I

but nowadays a teacher gives 0's for a major research paper for most of the class when they plagiarized it. The parents QQ'd to the school board who told the teacher to give them a do over because these high schoolers didn't know what plagiarism was. The teach says no way and the board says to do it or get fired.

How bout we dumb down the SAT's because they are too hard

How about we inflate the GPA by giving extra points so that an A+ is a 5.0 and all AP courses get an extra 8 points?

We went to school in an era when cheating was wrong, a 4.0 was the highest and the tests weren't dumbed down for us.

1. Teaching Math In 1950s

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price. What is his profit ?

2. Teaching Math In 1960s

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?

3. Teaching Math In 1970s

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80. Did he make a profit?

4. Teaching Math In 1980s

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20.

A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit of $20. What do you think of this way of making a living? Topic for class participation after answering the question: How did the birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes? (There are no wrong answers, and if you feel like crying, it's ok. )

One thing that ticks me off is how EVERYONE who participates in a school competition gets a prize. Back in my day, kids were recognized for first, second and third places; and the rest could just fuck off. Nowadays, everyone gets a prize/trophy, even if they came LAST. How will kids improve if they don't get any experience with failure?

LMAO, I like how US is placed on top of the list even though they have only ONE metal. Too bad China's not competing this year, they would just win everything.

I've already got my 5 year old who just started kindergarten understanding that there can not be winners unless there are losers. She says she doesn't want to be a loser so she's going to try her best at being a winner.

Didn't your edit just make us sound worse? (Pertaining to the education olympics and not the actual olympics) as in younger kid competing against older kids and winning in the education olympics?

Li Chang is in 4th grade, stands 5' 3" and hasn't shaved for what looks like 2 weeks. But he aced the test.

Your average American readers may not scroll down that far in the list 😉

The fact that you thought you had to clarify Hong Kong is a glaring statement about the intelligence in our country.

Not really. I wouldn't consider HK to be representative of China, so if anything it's a rather large reach.

I said overage, not underage.

Also, medals are made out of metal, Baked.
