I don't think aiming them would do much good. Does India even have the capability to hit the United States?

Yeah they probably do.

But the U.S. made India happy with all of those outsourced jobs :p

Don't eat me - It's an Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom reference :D

I think I remember my sister saying that people in elementary or middle school would ask her if she ate snakes and monkey brains. Ah, what would we do without Indiana Jones?

Nah, I'm pretty sure that India doesn't have the capability to hit the US with missiles originating from India.

They launch satellites so odds are they can launch missiles but why would they do it? Not only am I lining the pockets of there citizens but also the people they have sent abroad to take over.

no, its very different from launching a satelite. although in a few years India will test and maybe induct longer range missles, currently their missles top out at about 2,000-2,500. After the next missle, India says it will test a ICBM with a range of 8,000 miles. So India is not that much off from hitting a nation as far away as USA.

I was born in India (New Delhi), moved to the states when i was three, and have lived there since. (i say there because i'm taking a semester off and am in Delhi right now). I visited every summer since 1989, so any changes that have been taking place don't seem so great to me. However, within the last 10 years, India has become a MUCH more "international" place, what with the privatisation of several key market sectors, growth of internet in india, reductions on import duties etc. All this has made western information and goods easily available and popular.

A lot of how "western" a family here is will have to do with their class (income wise, not caste). A rich family will have the option of adopting a western lifestyle, or sticking with a traditional indian one. Middle-class down do not have this option, and the disparity between the wealthy and the middle class is HUGE.

Rich teenagers are incredibly "americanized," they would feel right at home in any big city in the US without too much adapting. They all drink, date, hook up, go clubbing, etc etc. I speak for this section of the population because I have the most exposure to it, in New Delhi, Bombay, and Ahmedabad.

Zinta and Rai are hot. :D

anything more you wanna know? ask!

-Vivan

You sound like you know what you're talking about, but I'm not sure about one thing. I found this americanization to be a lot among the middle class, obviously it influences the rich more, but none of my cousins even have a honda civic

thats probably because honda doesn't cell the civic in india... :D only the city, accord, and cr-v....
a lot of ppl stick with the marutis still...even rich folk... people care more about their cellphones than their cars.

Bombay ---------> Mumbai

Calcutta ---------> Kolkata

Madras ----------> Chennai

All my relatives there have a Maruti or Zen

But sometimes, when everyone from USA is going to India (my family of 4, plus aunt+uncle on east coast), we hire a car

Haha, all of the Maruti's and Zen's have stick shifts . . . I drove one in 2003 . . . very FUN! Drive with right hand, change gears with left!

O btw, I don't think I've seen a "cow eat hay" whenever I've been "welcomed to india"

My family comes from the agricultural village, Navatalav, which is located in the state of Gujarat.
I have to say, where I'm from, It really is a opposite lifestyle. I haven't been there since the 3rd grade, but my parents have, they said it's changed, but from what I remember, We had unexpected power outages (now they are scheduled), no indoor plumbing (now we do), and had an outhouse (when indoor plumbing came, so did toilets :)).

Being born and raised in Oakland County, Michigan (Which I'm sure is in the top 20, if not top 10, richest counties in the U.S.), I remember when I went to India, I was constantly nagging at my parents saying, "Can we go home yet?" Man I was a little i love you. I'd kill for some freetime to go visit India now, but being in college, I have a feeling it won't happen for another 4-5 years. :(

From personal experience, I know any westerner that goes there might have a hard time getting acclimated. The Indian palate is tottally 180 from the U.S. If you have a weak stomach, or can't handle heat, there's gonna be problems. :)
Also, get used to beggers coming up to you on public streets... they'll smell the American in you a mile (or should I say kilometer) away. Driving is like suicide to foriengers. Semi-trucks (tata's) are known to overtake on 2 lane roads. :Q

As for Indian movies and music, I regrettably never got into it. Growing up, I never sat down with my parents to watch hindi movies, and I never had an interest, but that changed in like late middle school. Thing is, now I have to use subtitles, where as my cousins who watched Hindi films like every weekend since they were babies just picked up on it! And in high school, I started to get into hindi music too, which was funny, because my parents are only accustomed to me listening to mainly Rap, Classical, or Rock, and when they heard the hindi music, they were like, "WHAAAAA?!! WE DID'NT KNO YOU LIKE HINDI MUSIC." LOL, they started getting all happy and making a big deal out of it.

Anywho, I hope all these haters on India don't change your decision to learn more more about it. :)
