I was born in India (New Delhi), moved to the states when i was three, and have lived there since. (i say there because i'm taking a semester off and am in Delhi right now). I visited every summer since 1989, so any changes that have been taking place don't seem so great to me. However, within the last 10 years, India has become a MUCH more "international" place, what with the privatisation of several key market sectors, growth of internet in india, reductions on import duties etc. All this has made western information and goods easily available and popular.
A lot of how "western" a family here is will have to do with their class (income wise, not caste). A rich family will have the option of adopting a western lifestyle, or sticking with a traditional indian one. Middle-class down do not have this option, and the disparity between the wealthy and the middle class is HUGE.
Rich teenagers are incredibly "americanized," they would feel right at home in any big city in the US without too much adapting. They all drink, date, hook up, go clubbing, etc etc. I speak for this section of the population because I have the most exposure to it, in New Delhi, Bombay, and Ahmedabad.
Zinta and Rai are hot. 😀
