It's funny you say that. I was parked between a Lexus IS350 and a Hummer H3 yesterday and looked at the paint on the H3 compared to the Lexus. Man, no contest. Lexus wins that one hands down. There was so much orange peel on the H3, don't get me wrong, it didn't look bad but compared to the Lexus it was like night and day difference.

BTW-Ford is the only one of the big three that didn't take bailout money. They have enough cash reserves to last a year or so last I heard.

I would also say that my friend's Camaro has the most amazing black paint I have seen. Well at least the best I have seen that is not a Porsche. Crap interior, amazing paint.
That being said, if I were a dash stroker I would prefer a Fusion and a Malibu over a Camry.

I like the Fusion. Hate the Malibu. Not real fond of the Camry either.

In all fairness, there is a woman who drives a CTS and the finish on it is quite good. I don't know why the H3 is so sucktacular.

I've ridden in it. Interior is nice but man does it get horrible mileage and it really only seats 4 people comfortably...same as my Maxima. The owner has chrome wheels on it and has never once taken it off road. This is a single guy I work with. He doesn't own a home...or pets, hell, prior to this he had a Honda CBR600.

I give him shit about it from time to time...the fact that he doesn't have a bike anymore not because of the SUV. 😉

I was surprised how comfortable they are too. It does some okay off-roading. Nothing crazy, like most factory equipped trucks. Just not my thing either. I do give him some crap about it.

wat 😕

Mustang is only 200 lbs more than the Z, and it has 2 more cylinders, 2 more seats (with enough room for 4 adults) and twice the cargo room.
Ford is trying to appease a broader market with the Mustang than Nissan is with the Z.
that it may but it still needs a diet.

they both should ditch the giant power robbing wheels. moving weight further out is not conducive to acceleration.

wat 😕

I don't know about the mustang, but IIRC for the 370Z, they come with 14" front, 13.8" rear brakes. With the caliper, I doubt you could clear those on anything less than 18" wheels.

The best value is the 2009 mustang GT brand new for 22k and it's the same motor, you want to intake/tune the car anyway which will put it past the slightly bumped up flywheel 315hp on the new 10 model.

The Mustang doesn't have the handling of the Z, no way, however it's cheap and easy to mod, much more aftermarket and wayyyyyyyyyyy easier to get good power out of.

you're entitled to feel it's a waste of $30k for a high 13 second car.

but how would you feel about it if it were a low 13 second car that beats a $60k porsche around a track?

Not particularly impressed. $23,000 Cobalt SS already beat the $60k porsche. I bet Cobalt SS would give 370z run for its money. SS was slightly faster than 350z.

Makes about as little sense as comparing a 335i to a Porsche Cayman. Totally different target markets with different needs.

Neither of these two are all that impressive.

Agreed, I'd much rather buy a nice low mileage Lotus Elise. You can find those around here for low to mid $30k easily.

You'd use that as a daily driver and as your only car??? 😕

The new Z's have not been known for their modablility. I remember the thing with putting an intake on the Z's would make them lose power and mods for them are really expensive. If you wanna keep it stock then it's a great buy but if you want to mod it then it's not the best bang for the buck.

You make it sound like this is a bad thing. I'm pretty sure the computer is better at RPM matching than any human, noob or 30 year race veteran. Less drive train shock is never a bad thing.

No, it isn't, but I think it's better to learn how to do something good, rather than just have it done for you. But that's why I drive manual, so whatever.

Do you prefer to pulse your brakes yourself too rather than have ABS?

Two separate cases: One is simply a mechanical motion at its base sense.

Blipping the throttle while easing in the clutch takes skill and coordination and is immensely fun if done right. If not...it's not. :Q

But you'll see one day.

And there it is... the elitist attitude. Congratulations on holding back for an entire post before pointing your nose to the sky at anyone that welcomes technological driving aids. As if people don't have it easy enough with fancy synchronized transmissions already.

I knew your ignorant, uncomprehending attitude would immediately billet me as "an elitest" because I drive a manual. 😕

I thought I have been pretty clear: some gearboxes are definitely superior to manual, but even the Audi tiptronic, which is licensed by VW I think, is basically a torque converter, which is weak; meant for people who don't know how to drive.

I used to have the same bitchy opinion as you, til I started driving a manual. It's fun, but if you're a narrow minded individual, you'll miss out. Your loss.

Now cry your heart out.

I drove a manual for the better part of a decade. You can still fuck up the rev matching on downshift every now and then. Besides, that feature on the Z can be turned off completely if you so desire.

I think it's trick as hell and I'd love to try it out.

I am one of those who hates flappy paddle gearboxes and CVTs. Give me a car with an old fashioned manual gearbox and a clutch pedal anyday. I don't give a crap if the computer can initiate shifts faster than I can. I want to feel the clutch engage and row the lever through the gears, it is part of the visceral connection with the car and one I don't want to give up.

I don't like the fact that so many Porsche's now come with Tiptronic gear boxes. It really narrows down the market of used 911's that I might consider buying one day because I won't buy one with that ridiculous Tiptronic crap.

Agree 100%. Kind of a shame Ferrari is going the same way, although the absolutely drop dead gorgeous Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano has a 6 speed manual option.

Aston Martin is old school, making six speed manual cars first, then adding a flappy paddle later. But quite frankly, people who buy a super car and then get a flappy paddle are queer.

Ferrari and Lamborghini. Yes, it is a shame.

At least the Lotus Elise only comes with a 6 speed manual gearbox.
