WASHINGTON – Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says he has apologized to ousted employee Shirley Sherrod and offered her a unique new position at the agency.

Sherrod, in an interview with The Associated Press, says she is considering the offer.
Vilsack told reporters that Sherrod accepted his apology. He said, "She was extraordinarily gracious."

The offer comes after an embarrassed White House apologized to Sherrod Wednesday for ousting her over her remarks about race to an NAACP banquet in Georgia earlier this year. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said the administration did not know all the facts when it acted.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Ousted employee Shirley Sherrod says Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has offered to hire her back.

Sherrod told The Associated Press she's considering the offer, which she said was for a different position than her former post as state director of rural development in Georgia.

Then there's a delorean involved somewhere as O'Reilly was calling for her resignation the other day ...

Pls link it up.

Everything I've seen says O'Reilly's stuff was after her resignation.

If Andrew Breitbart originally wanted to expose some sort of controversy at the NAACP, he has succeeded. The explanation that they were "snookered" makes them appear easily manipulated.

The edited videotape was a low blow, but there were many people in the room that listened to her speak. Somehow the edited remarks didn't cause anyone to recollect the events as they really happened or make someone seek out a complete video or transcript of her remarks before going off half-cocked.

Shirley Sherrod resigned Monday afternoon on July 19th.

O'Reilly, Hannity etc weren't even on the air until Monday night, well after her forced resignation.

This looks to be article on the Fox website before her resignation. It's dated July 19th and I'm assuming it was published in the morning of that day (i.e., it would be before her resignation):

http://www.investorsiraq.com/showth...idn-t-Give-Full-Force-of-Help-to-White-Farmer

So, no the "story was (NOT) all over Fox and their talking heads BEFORE she was fired".

No it does not. This story was all over Fox and their talking heads BEFORE she was fired. The story was on Fox's website on the 19th.

She resigned on the 19th according to my understanding?

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20011099-503544.html

Shirley Sherrod, the USDA's former director of rural development in Georgia, said USDA deputy undersecretary Cheryl Cook called her Monday and said the White House wanted her to resign, the Associated Press reports.

"They called me twice," Sherrod told the AP, noting that she was driving when she received the calls. "The last time they asked me to pull over the side of the road and submit my resignation on my Blackberry, and that's what I did."

Fox's initial reaction: "Racist" Sharrod "must resign"

O'Reilly: "Sherrod must resign," her remarks are "unacceptable." On the July 19 edition of his show, Bill O'Reilly played the edited portion of the tape and said "that is simply unacceptable. And Ms. Sherrod must resign immediately." He also falsely claimed that "the full transcript of Ms. Sherrod's remarks is posted on BigGovernment.com."
Hannity called Sherrod's remarks "[j]ust the latest in a series of racial incitents," called for the NAACP to be "held to account" to repudiate Sherrod. On the July 19 edition of his Fox News show, Sean Hannity asserted that Sherrod's comments were "[j]ust the latest in a series of racial incidents," and stated that "So it's interesting that it took the new media to expose this." He also asked Newt Gingrigh if, "in light of the NAACP accusing the Tea Party of being a racist movement last week," he thought "the NAACP should be held to account for the very standard they were demanding from the Tea Party."
Perino: "This video adds fuel to a growing controversy after the NAACP" asked the tea party to denounce racists. On the July 19 edition of On the Record, Dana Perino suggested Sherrod's remarks were racist, saying that "The video adds fuel to a growing controversy after the NAACP approved a resolution condemning the tea party movement for not denouncing racist members."
Doocy: Sherrod "sure sounded racist," is "[e]xhibit A" of "what racism looks like." On the July 19 edition of Fox & Friends, co-host Steve Doocy said that Sherrod made "a speech to the NAACP that sure sounded racist." Later, after guest-host Ailysn Camerota asserted that Sherrod's remarks are "outrageous and perhaps everybody needs a refresher course on what racism looks like," Doocy responded that Sherrod's comments are "Exhibit A."

You do know they were calling the white house and taping most of these BEFORE she resigned right. The talking sheet that is passed around fox had this story all over it, that is passed around the early morning so everybody keep hammering the same thing. AGAIN well before she resigned.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack told reporters this afternoon that he has offered a "personal and profound" apology to Shirley Sherrod for forcing her to resign as a result of an out-of-context video posted to a conservative website.

"I asked for Shirley's forgiveness, and she was gracious enough to extend it to me," Vilsack said, accepting "full responsibility" for forcing her to step down.

"This is a good woman," he said. "She has been put through hell. I could have done and should have done a better job."

Vilsack said he offered Sherrod, who had been Georgia State Director of Rural Development, a new position at the USDA, though he declined to specify the nature of that position. Sherrod indicated to him that she wants time to consider his offer.

Vilsack was adamant that the decision to fire Sherrod was his and his alone, saying "the buck stops with me, as it should." He said he made a "very hasty decision which I deeply regret" and that he will "have to live with that for a long, long time."

Vilsack was adamant that the decision to fire Sherrod was his and his alone

Sure it was ;)

Nice how this has shifted to "when" Fox reported vs. "what" Fox reported. The "what" of course being an explicit perpetuation of Breitbart's hatchet job with added commentary.

This "Story" appears to be a complete setup. A News organization is supposed to Report News, not Make News. Fox fails again.

I have to wonder how many people commenting here have watched the full video? No one has even commented on the break in the tape about halfway through?

This is BS. There are links elsewhere in this thread showing O'Reilly saying "she must resign." Now, if she'd already resigned, that would be an awfully strange thing to say. Same for the Hannity clip. And same for the other clips. They all clearly were made BEFORE she resigned, and they play the same truncated clip that stops PRECISELY after Sherrod says she didn't extend as much help as she might have.

Oh, you know the drill.

Must.berate.foxnews! A little more power in DC and the FCC will shut them down and we'll have no news source that reports anything other than the party line. Progressive utopia.

The shows were likely taped before the resignation and aired after. But when they aired is largely irrelevant given their "fair and balanced" content.

Perhaps she had already resigned? I posted a link where Ms Sherrod says she sent her resignation in on Monday (the 19th) over her Blackberry. And she claims the person she was dealing with represented the White House, not the USDA.

Then there is the break in the tape released by NAACP? What is up with that?
