Vilsack needs and must resign over this. Period. (it is that important)
And the head of the NAACP also needs to resign.
Heads should roll.
And Fox news, and the author of this smear should also pay a heavy price (but you know that won't happen in our lifetime).
The white house can play blame games over this, but if Obama had any balls, he'd demand Vilsacks resignation immediately. But they won't.
They only do that when it concerns a black women.

If you read the stories you'd see it was someone from the White House who demanded her resignation be sent in immediately over her Blackberry.

To bad facts don't show that. The story and video was on Fox's website and they were taping the shows well before she resigned. Fox was also calling the USDA and white house for comment BEFORE she resigned.

So yes Fox was leading the way and callign her a racist and saying she should be fired.

Also did you miss this part...

"Fox executives say O'Reilly's staff, which is notpart of the news division, sought comment from USDA throughout the day."

The USDA jumped and tried to get ahead of the story with all the pressure coming from Fox.

We know she was fired on Monday, the 19th. Do you know EXACTLY when was she fired? It seems the firing was a preemptive strike by the White House to me and until someone can PROVE otherwise beyonda shadow of a doubt all you are doing is speculating.

um, what you arte claiming is impossible. Fox did not mention the story on air until after she had been forced to resign.

O'reilly aired at 8pm edt, hannity at 9pm edt on the 19th. Many hours after she hd been forced to resign. There had not been one peep on air from fox until after the wh jerked their knees.

Glenn beck did not mention her until the next day on the 20th. His show airs at 5pm and was taped for the 19th before he knew about the story.

And as soon as the truth was discovered, they changed their opinions.

Media matters is distorting the shit out of this, but even they cannot change timelines.

Why would she have been forced to resign if there wasn't a push from the networks (ahem fox) earlier in the day? No one would have noticed the edited clip if it had just stayed on biggovernment.com no one would have seen it. It wasn't until the clip made it to Fox.com (with the same exact verbiage from biggovernment.com's website) that it started this whole mess. Unfortunately the Obama administration reacted to try to quash this story instead of considering the source.

I love how on Monday Fox was denouncing Shirley Sharrod and on Tuesday they were condemning the Obama Administration for not looking at all the facts.

I love how you don't hold our fearless leader accountable for his screw-ups.

God Damn America!!

President should know by now there is no way to win.

Wait and investigate, and fire later after scumbagginess confirmed = what took so long, he only did it because of pressure.

Fire immediately, incompetence - should have investigated.

I agree they did the wrong thing. They got scared of backlash and just fired her. Should have waited regardless and let an investigation play out.

You know for a news organization that everybody loves to hate, discredit and make fun of, they wield an awful lot of power to get someone fired.

Pathetic really, the Obama Administrations and the NAACP knee jerks because of something on Fox and fires this woman because they did not investigate but took the word of an organization and and a host they find contemptible.

This administration is like a 5 year old and Fox news like it's younger brother, the younger brother is sitting there sticking his tongue out at the older one and when the 5 year old hits the younger one in the face making him bleed, when mom confronts him....the 5 year old points his finger at the younger brother and says "But...But...he MADE me do it!!!"

Such is the state of afffairs in America. Why give the serious problems any serious attention when we can make the big bucks and keep the public entertained with trivial nonsense.

LOL, the devil made me do it, LOL!!

Yeah I think that's actually a good explanation of what happened.

It's awesome that those blasting the Obama administration and the NAACP for trusting the conservative media don't even seem to realize they are arguing against trusting the conservative media.

Again, you are focusing only on the evening broadcasts. Fox featured the story hourly from early morning on -- that's why the Undersecretary expected Beck to be talking about it that night.

Wrong. Fox did NOT air the story until, and no mention was made of Sherrod or the video until after 8:30PM EDT Monday the 19th.

She was forced to resign MANY hours earlier that day.

On the Tuesday the 20th 5:00PM show of Glenn Beck, he defended Sherrod.

Period, folks. Of this, there is no doubt.

The blaming of Fox for this is absurd, and contrary to the facts.

I would say that any admin that fired someone based on an Internet Blog posting of a video without doing some further checking is incompetent.

More outright dishonest distortions.

Let's see the timeline, shall we?

Early Monday the 19th: Video posted by Breitbart.

Monday sometime around noon the 19th: Sherrod forced to resign

Monday 1:40 first mention of Sherrod on Fox Nation, story still not posted on Fox.com nor mentioned on Fox News.

Monday 1:49 Fox Nation post updated to show Sharrod resigned.

Still no mention on Fox News TV.

Sometime around 4:40PM: Article and video posted on Foxnews.com

I posted the story and video here at 6:30PM

First mention on Fox News TV? After 8:30PM on O'Reilly.

In other words, Sherrod was forced to resign BEFORE Fox Reported on the video.

First mention on Fox

Well of course you would. But what would you say about all the other folks that piled on this woman without doing further checking of their own? Are they incompetent too? Or were they duped by the conservative media? The fact is we all rely on the media for our information to some extent, presidential administrations not excluded. They have admitted they were wrong and have apologized. Others have merely shifted targets and continued attack that suit their agenda.

Disgusting situation. This should be a lesson to all news agencies to actually verify what you are putting out there rather than being the first to report it.

Who cares? You do admit that the administration knew the press was about to go crazy over this right? It makes sense they would try to undermine the story by saying "we've already dealt with it." Granted, the administration got suckered and deserves criticism for that.

But Fox got suckered too and they're supposedly fact-checking journalists. I'm not going to single out Fox either. The NY Times got suckered before the Iraq war.

A news organization's purpose is to pass on the news as it comes in AND fact check. There is a difference between investigative journalism and regular news.

ALL the news outlets passed on the same story and video. Sherrod went to CNN and virtually moved in there, so they had the first heads up that the video may have been deceptive.

Though Fox did not get the same heads up, they DID retract the story ASAP, report on the full video as soon as it was available to them and even their political commentators all retracted. Beck's FIRST mention of her on Tuesday was to defend her.

So Maddow and Media Matters are full of shit. Period.

Everyone was suckered, not just Fox and the WH. But the WH jerked their knees first. And they bear the responsibility here.

Amused, did you ever apologize for being 'snookered' into Andrew Breibart's fabricated ACORN videos, or are you still clinging to that as gospel and truth?

Fox and Breitbart teamed together on the lie

CNN debunked the video.

If it wasn't for CNN putting the smack down on Murdock and his liars that woman would have been sacrificed.

Now it's time for the DOJ to take Fox off air and offline permanently.
If the DOJ attempts to take FoxNews off the air I and many others will be descending on D.C. with arms ready. The Democrats are entitled to "fundamentally transform" our country through the legal legislative process due to their victories in the 2008 elections; changing this country into Venezuela will not happen without a full-fledged shooting war.

Not true, the story ran on Fox broadcast late morning and afternoon.
She was forced to resign MANY hours earlier that day.
No, her resignation was submitted via Blackberry after 5pm (edt) because her boss (who for my money hasn't received nearly the attention she should since Sherrod sent her an e-mail the week before) was afraid of what might come in the evening. Note that O'Reilley did demand her resignation.
Period, folks. Of this, there is no doubt.
Well there is definitely no doubt that you have drunk the kool-aid and presented the timeline per the current Fox rewrites.

The only thing that is true in your post is that her immediate supervisor's claim that the story would be on Glen Beck's program Monday was inaccurate. Beck didn't have to run with it on Monday because by the time his program aired, she had already been forced out.

If you read the stories you'd see it was someone from the White House who demanded her resignation be sent in immediately over her Blackberry.
If you read the stories, you'll see that it was her immediate supervisor demanded her resignation saying was because the White House wanted her out. It's clear that the Secretary of Agriculture was keen to get rid of her but that's different from saying that the White House "demanded" her resignation.

I'm not defending the White House here, IMO, the staff there should have been aggressively trying to vet the story before letting anyone take any action. There's a big difference though between using "higher ups" as cover for your own cowardice and actually receiving instructions to fire someone.

Look at who you quoted.
